Emmerdale fans reckon they've sussed out the downfall of Gus Malcolm. Last year Rhona Goskirk discovered that her ex, Gus, and his partner Lucy were expecting a baby - this was after they'd told Rhona they couldn't have kids due to fertility problems. Rhona and Gus had gone through IVF years ago, resulting in some embryos being frozen.
When they broke up, Rhona thought these embryos were destroyed. Howver, Gus stopped this from happening and asked if he and Lucy could use them, reports The Mirror Online. Rhona said no, but Gus went ahead and forged her signature.
Lucy then got pregnant with Rhona's embryo. Sadly, Lucy passed away while giving birth to baby Ivy, leaving Gus heartbroken and Rhona feeling torn about the baby. Rhona and her family started helping Gus, which led to Rhona admitting she wanted to be part of Ivy's life.
This sparked a battle between the parents, with Gus planning to run away with Ivy.
But Rhona took Ivy and left the village, leading to her arrest for kidnapping. In a shock turn of events, Rhona made the shocking decision to plead not guilty in court, despite knowing this could result in a lengthy prison sentence and her lawyer advising that her pleading guilty would be the best option. But, sitting down with her husband Marlon Dingle and mum Mary at the cafe, she explained: "I can't stand up in that court tomorrow and brand myself a criminal...
I'd never be able to live with myself if I didn't stand up for what's right. I know what's at stake but maybe I can win this. Either way, my mind is made up, I am pleading not guilty...
