Emmerdale viewers were left completely gobsmacked as tonight's instalment of the ITV soap finally appeared to reveal the truth about Amit Sharma (played by Anil Goutam). For months now, Jai Sharma (Chris Bisson) has been convinced that his biological father had secretly murdered his uncle and adopted father Rishi Sharma. The horrific scenes unfolded on Jai and Laurel's (Charlotte Bellamy) wedding day last year, when Rishi was found lying dead at the bottom of his stairs.
It later transpired that Amit had arrived in the village that day and after a number of clues emerged, Jai believed that Amit must have been the one to kill his adopted dad. But Amit steadfastly said he was not the one to blame, and he simply loves his family, as others in the village fight their own heartbreaking battles. While Jai has struggled to trust his biological father, tonight appeared to show that Amit was definitely at the scene, as he smirked upon sharing a deadly clue at the end of the episode.
After telling the rest of the family that he tragically had a terminal illness, Amit was seen reflecting on the events in the car with his business associate. "I can't believe they thought I was dying, but it worked, it worked a treat. Got Jai back on side," he said with a grin, before telling his colleague that his actions were about "securing my sons' futures".
"Your recent inheritance from Uncle Ravi helped pay for it," the other man prompted, as Amit said coldly: "It was a blessing." Just as Jai finally believed Amit's tales, it couldn't have been further from the truth. "I'm sorry dad," Jai said over the village bridge. "I know how much you loved your brother, and I've been treating him like dirt.
