As the rumors have suggested so far, it’s starting to look like Marvel’s “Deadpool 3” will host a cornucopia of cameos from the 20th Century era of Marvel. The third, currently unofficially titled “Deadpool” movie will already feature a long-dreamt-for crossover between Ryan Reynolds’ Wade Wilson and “X-Men” actor Hugh Jackman as Wolverine.

MCU fans know Anthony Mackie as Sam Wilson, aka: The Falcon, who will soon don the Captain America mantle in “Captain America: Brave New World” next year. But if Mackie had his way, he’d be another Marvel superhero altogether: Black Panther.

Once upon a time, after “Zama” wowed audiences at the Venice Film Festival, Marvel Studios had its eye on Argentinian director Lucrecia Martel to direct “Black Widow.” The short version: Marvel wanted a woman to helm the Scarlett Johansson vehicle, and they met with several female filmmakers about the movie in 2018. Martel wasn’t interested, and directing duties eventually landed with Cate Shortland.

While the discussion surrounding Marvel Studios’ “Secret Invasion” over the past week seems to have been mostly about the fact that generative A.I. was used to create the title sequence, there was something pretty impactful to the MCU in the episode.

Let the speculation begin. Deadline reports that Sony has reserved two dates on the upcoming movie calendar for Sony/Marvel projects: November 8, 2024 and June 27, 2025.

Massive release date changes were fairly commonplace over the past few years, as we watched the COVID pandemic shift entire distribution strategies for film studios. Now, it appears the WGA Strike has finally shown its impact on film releases, at least over at Disney, as the studio delays some of the biggest films on its schedule including new “Avengers,” “Star Wars,” and “Avatar” films.

The “Marvel formula” is a term used to describe the same-sameness of the dozens of films and TV projects from Marvel Studios. Most people focus on the obvious similarities in tone and structure.

Marvel Studios typically hates when set photos get leaked and fans around the world get a sneak peek at one of the upcoming films or TV shows. But it’s not so bad, I suppose, when someone from Marvel is actually doing the leaking, as is the case with Anthony Mackie giving people a behind-the-scenes look at the new “Captain America” film.

While it will definitely (as Kevin Feige so eloquently puts it in the same discussion below) go down as one of the best decisions in Hollywood history, there has already been so much written about Robert Downey, Jr. being cast as Tony Stark in 2008’s “Iron Man.” However, in a new interview with Feige and filmmaker Jon Favreau, it’s revealed that RDJ could have shown up in a Marvel film years before his “Iron Man” debut.

Finally, a little bit of clarity from Marvel Studios when it comes to their lineup of 2023 shows on Disney+. After a heap of back-and-forth rumblings, it’s been officially announced that following Marvel’s event limited series “Secret Invasion” debuting on the streaming service on June 21, “Loki” and “Echo” are now confirmed for the fall.

Whether he likes it or not, one of the biggest discussions surrounding the release of “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3” is how James Gunn is balancing being the filmmaker for this new Marvel feature while also the co-CEO of DC Studios, the presumed “rival” company.

This week saw the Writers Guild of America call a strike after they couldn’t reach a tentative deal with the Alliance of Motion Picture & Television Producers, which led to a vote for work stoppage for its 11,500+ members across the film, television, and streaming mediums. Writers are seeking fair compensation, job security, and salaries over gig positions and to block the disruptive use of A.I.

After two massively successful installments in the “Guardians of the Galaxy” film franchise, James Gunn was ready to work on the third. Then he got fired, went to DC to make “The Suicide Squad,” was rehired to work on ‘Guardians,’ and released a Christmas special, and now, years later, we’re here to finally see how the filmmaker wanted his franchise to end.

Sure, sure, sure, Hugh Jackman is returning as Wolverine in “Deadpool 3.” And yes, the film marks the debut of both Deadpool and Wolverine in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Fandom is a funny thing. There’s this assumption made by fans, especially folks obsessed with the Marvel Cinematic Universe, that everyone who acts in a Marvel Studios project needs to be some sort of expert.

Sometimes the tabloid mindset can push rabid fans down serious rabbit holes. One of the more recent examples of this was actress Mila Kunis having lunch with “Fantastic Four” director Matt Shakman (“WandaVision“), who is notably friends with a bunch of Hollywood industry people such as recognizable actors like Kunis.

British actress Mia Goth is quickly cementing herself as a modern scream queen with roles in horror pics like “A Cure For Wellness,” “Suspiria,” “X,” “Pearl,” Brandon Cronenberg‘s creepy flick “Infinity Pool,” and the latest Ti West installment “MaXXXine.” Goth is now sinking her teeth into another horror project, but this one is coming from Marvel Studios with their “Blade” reboot from director Yann Demange (“White Boy Rick“).

Last week, news broke that Morena Baccarin wasn’t sure she’d be returning for “Deadpool 3.” “I’d like to be in it,” Baccarin said on a recent episode of the “Inside Of You” podcast. “They have called me about being in it.

The ongoing Marvel storytelling continues. And “The Marvels” is a super fascinating hybrid of Marvel’s efforts.

“Deadpool 3” marks the entrance of the Merc With A Mouth into the MCU. It also sees Ryan Reynold‘s Deadpool join up with Hugh Jackman‘s Wolverine, who’s also in the MCU for the first time.

Before James Gunn took over as DC Studios co-head with Peter Safran, he had loose ends to tie up with the MCU, making “Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 3.” Now, in the lead-up to that film’s theatrical release on May 5, Gunn teases what some superhero movie fan has dreamed about for years now; and, for the rest of us, is the stuff of nightmares.

You could argue that the best thing Frank Grillo has done for his career was to say yes to the Russo Brothers and Marvel Studios when they offered him the role of Brock Rumlow, aka Crossobones, in “Captain America: The Winter Soldier.” He would go on to play the character multiple times in films and the “What If?” TV series.

While “Deadpool 3” is gearing up to be Marvel’s first big attempt at tackling mutants, their upcoming “Fantastic Four” reboot is also going to be a real challenge as it’ll be the first proper hard reboot of the Fox era. The studio is said to be zeroing in on casting the four leading roles, and the latest update on the film is a bit of a switch-up on who is writing the script.

While there has been a swirl of reports lately that Marvel Studios is going to slow down the number of TV series released on Disney+ in a year, that doesn’t mean the studio is canceling any series it already has in active development, including the highly anticipated series, “Wonder Man.” Not only are they moving toward production, but it seems as if the “Wonder Man” series has found yet another actor to add to the cast.

Actor Matthew Macfadyen’s biggest and most notable role is easily HBO’s “Succession”—the weasely and cowardly Tom Wambsgans. And while that role and show are coming to an end this spring, Macfadyen doesn’t have to be worried about being out of work.

Zachary Levi isn’t having such a great couple of weeks, is he? Obviously, he was hoping “Shazam! Fury of the Gods” would be a massive hit and that would force James Gunn and Peter Safran, co-CEOs of DC Studios, to somehow work the character into their new slate of projects. Alas, that’s far from the truth.

When it was originally announced, the “Daredevil: Born Again” TV adaptation was said to take place over 18 episodes. This is a huge commitment from Marvel Studios, who has typically kept shows to nine episodes, at most.

It’s been a busy week for Marvel’s “Daredevil: Born Again” as production is ramping up in NYC. First, it was announced that Jon Bernthal would be returning to the role of Frank Castle, aka, The Punisher, in the Disney+ series alongside fellow former “Daredevil” cast members Charlie Cox and Vincent D’Onofrio in their respective Marvel roles.

Bob Iger returned as CEO of Disney last November, and since his return, the company’s mantra has been “stick with what works.” Last month, Iger put that into practice when he announced sequels to the “Toy Story,” “Frozen,” and “Zootopia‘ franchises. But what isn’t working at Disney recently? THR reports that Iger doesn’t like how expensive making films and shows has gotten, with Deadline adding that franchises like “Star Wars” and Marvel may see some shifts because of that.
