Lawrence added depth to Martin’s strumming with her performance on a pedal steel guitar, while Collier fleshed out the soundscape on piano. For their two-song micro-set, the group covered ABBA’s 1976 hit ‘Knowing Me, Knowing You’ and Kate Bush’s newly-made-cool-again ‘Running Up That Hill’.

Coldplay have reacted to a claim that they’re being used as “useful idiots for greenwashing” while they pursue their eco-friendly ‘Music Of The Spheres’ world tour. The band’s plan to minimise their and their fans’ carbon footprint has been welcomed, although criticism has surfaced regarding companies that they’ve partnered with for help.Last week Coldplay announced a partnership with Finnish oil company Neste to cut their touring emissions by half. Neste claims to be the world’s largest producer of sustainable biofuels but the firm’s palm oil suppliers cleared at least 24,710 acres of forest in countries including Indonesia and Malaysia between 2019 and 2020 [via Friends Of The Earth].Carlos Calvo Ambel, a senior director of the Transport and Environment campaign group (T&E) said: “Neste is cynically using Coldplay to greenwash its reputation.“This is a company that is linked to the kind of deforestation that would appal Chris Martin and his fans.

You can find tickets to their upcoming UK dates here. The ‘Music Of The Spheres World Tour App’ first launched during those Central American dates, and the app is now being given a renewed push as the band embarks on the North American leg of their tour tomorrow (May 6).Available to download here for free for iOS and Android devices, the app “forms a key part of the band’s pledge to make their tour as sustainable and low-carbon as possible, since fan travel accounts for the largest part of tour-related emissions”, a statement reads.Coldplay’s app will allow “fans to plan low-carbon travel to and from shows, with those who choose green journeys [being] rewarded with a merch discount code” at the gigs.A post shared by Coldplay (@coldplay)The app, which will also house Coldplay-themed games and AR experiences, exclusive behind-the-scenes content and an audio livestream of a forthcoming European tour date, will “measure total fan-travel carbon emissions so that the band can drawdown these impacts via high quality nature-based solutions, such as reforestation and soil regeneration”.So far, the average fan carbon footprint is down around 50 per cent from 2016/17’s ‘A Head Full Of Dreams Tour’.“We’re really proud of the ‘Music Of The Spheres World Tour App’,” Coldplay said in a statement.

Watch Coldplay’s new manga-inspired animated video for ‘People Of The Pride’

Coldplay have shared their manga-inspired new video for ‘People Of The Pride’ – you can watch it below.Directed by Paul Dugdale, the clip mixes live footage from the band’s October 2021 performance at Seattle’s Climate Pledge Arena with robot-heavy, dystopian animation. The track follows previous singles ‘Let Somebody Go‘, ‘Higher Power‘, ‘My Universe‘ and ‘Coloratura’.The song is taken from Coldplay’s recent album ‘Music Of The Spheres’, which arrived last October. The band recently shared an expansive cover of Kid Cudi‘s 2008 hit ‘Day ‘n’ Nite as part of a new Spotify Singles release, which also features a new version of ‘Let Somebody Go’, their recent collaboration with Selena Gomez.“This is the first time I think that we’ve really taken proper time to record a cover, because in my head I could hear a version of it quite different from the original, that hopefully just reinforces what a brilliant song it is,” Martin said of the cover. “One way or another I hope that anyone listening will just think, ‘Wow, Kid Cudi is amazing.’”Coldplay are set to embark on an eco-friendly world tour later this week on the back of their new album, with dates scheduled at London’s Wembley Stadium, Glasgow, Paris, Berlin and other European cities throughout July and August.
