Coronation Street fans were left in a state of dismay during the latest trip to Weatherfield as it was revealed that Peter Barlow was the reason for Stephen Reid's shocking permanent exit. Fans have been speculating as to how the serial killer would leave.
But in a dramatic twist the character, played by Todd Boyce, was run over by Peter, played by Chris Gascoyne, as he threatened Jenny Connor with a broken bottle after knocking his own niece Sarah Barlow unconscious with another bottle.
However, it has left fans fearing how Peter, and Chris, will leave the ITV soap after he confirmed in July that he will be leaving the role.. He told Metro.co.uk that his character of Peter 'is very close to his heart,' while a Coronation Street spokesperson told the publication that the door is 'left open' - meaning the 55-year-old could return in the future.
Chris first appeared as Peter in 2000 during Corrie's 40th anniversary live episode. He then left the role in 2003 and returned in 2007 for a brief stint before returning full-time in 2008. In January 2014 it was confirmed that Chris would be leaving once again, but the following year he reprised the role for two episodes for the funeral of Deirdre Barlow, played by Anne Kirkbride.

It was then revealed in 2016 that Peter would be making a return to Weatherfield, with Chris remaining in the role ever since. While no details have been divulged about his exit, Ryan Prescott, who plays Ryan Connor in Corrie, has teased 'special' scenes between Peter and his wife Carla Connor, played by Alison King.
