An amber cold weather health alert has been issued for the north west – meaning the “whole population” could now be at risk.
The alert, issued by the UK Health Security Agency and the Met Office, covers the North West of England, West Midlands, East Midlands and South West of England. It will remain in place until midday on January 12.
An amber alert means “means cold weather impacts are likely to be felt across the whole health service for an extended period of time, with potential for the whole population to be at risk."
