Emmerdale viewers were left heartbroken for Belle Dingle (played by Eden Taylor-Draper), as she received a devastated phone call from her dad Zak Dingle (Steve Halliwell) ahead of her wedding day. The character has been planning her nuptials to fiancé Tom King (James Chase) on the ITV soap in recent weeks, with the pair deciding to tie the knot in a lavish Valentine's Day event. Sadly, Belle's dad phoned on Wednesday's instalment, 14 February, to tell her that he'd "done his back in" and wouldn't be able to come to the wedding any longer, leaving her not wanting to go ahead with the day at all.
It was the worst timing for Belle, as things with her husband-to-be appear to be getting rockier every day. It's been a while since fans first shared their worries about Tom's behaviour and multitude of red flags in his relationship with Belle. The character, who is Jimmy King's nephew, has come across controlling with Belle, and often manipulative too.
He has also used gaslighting behaviour, with many viewers convinced that the soap is embarking down a full-blown abuse storyline with the couple once they're married. But what's more, fans know that Belle is in for further heartbreak as the actor who played her dad sadly died in real life. Upset to see Belle receive the news that her beloved dad can't be at her wedding, viewers shared their thoughts on X, formerly Twitter.
"Poor Belle," one person sobbed. "This, then they’ve got to bring Zak’s death into it. I can see her falling back into her mental heath troubles #Emmerdale" "Poor belle her dad can’t make it due to a bad back..
hopefully the wedding doesn’t go ahead anyway. #Emmerdale," another fan shared. "Zak," a third posted, followed by a string of crying emojis.
