Phil Foden says he would relish the responsibility of being tasked with replacing Ilkay Gundogan's role in the Man City midfield next season.
The 23-year-old has played the majority of his matches in the City first-team as a left winger but is currently being considered for a more central role following the departure of the club captain.
Foden shone in a central role in the Champions League final win over Inter Milan last month, having been tested there across the last few matches of the season.
It was the injured Kevin De Bruyne who he replaced in Istanbul, but now the task for Pep Guardiola is to try and replace Gundogan following his move to Barcelona.

City have already signed Mateo Kovacic to help strengthen their options in midfield, though Foden is another option to play there, and has played almost entirely in midfield during pre-season.
"It’s happening now in pre season but I don’t know if it’s going to happen in the season as well – we’ll have to see," Foden told reporters in Tokyo of his recent position switch. "I’ll just try to be ready for that if it happens. I know I can play anywhere along the front, in midfield as well, just be ready for whatever the manager wants."
Guardiola has regularly backed Foden for a move more central in the future, though he has had some doubts over his tactical discipline to play in such a position.
Foden's increased maturity and gradual development now make him a much better fit for the role, and he admits he would have a lot more responsibility if he played as a midfielder going forward.
