Manchester City's new signing Mateo Kovacic will be able to split open the opposition from a defensive position unlike Kevin De Bruyne, according to former goalkeeper David James.
The Croat's arrival from Chelsea has been the Blues' only signing so far this window despite losing the likes of Riyad Mahrez and Ilkay Gundogan. Kovacic made 27 Premier League appearances for the Stamford Bridge club last season yet he was one of several players to be sold this summer.
So far, Kovacic has appeared to settle in well with his new teammates but his arrival has led to questions as to where he will fit into Pep Guardiola's system. However, former City 'keeper James believes the midfielder will offer something different which the Treble squad lacked last season.
He told the club's official YouTube channel: "I think [a player like] Kovacic coming into the City squad is something that City haven’t had before because the way Kovacic plays is unlike anyone else, in my opinion. He can pick balls up, break lines with the ball.
