UEFA have agreed to meet with Manchester City to discuss the issues around the Champions League final after a fan report helped to highlight the problems that too many supporters faced.
Over 20,000 Blues had an unforgettable time in Istanbul to witness Pep Guardiola and his players win the greatest prize in European football for the first time in the club's history. However, substandard facilities, logistics and communication let fans travelling to the game down and tarnished the memory of the game for plenty who had rightly expected better.
City conducted a review on the team's return to Manchester and have also now passed on a detailed report by City Matters compiled by the group's Under-25 representative Alex Howell that methodically catalogues the experiences - good and bad - that supporters had in Istanbul around the game. That report concludes with four key recommendations, asking for public recognition from both City and UEFA of the issues faced by supporters as well as a call for City to improve what they can and for an independent report by UEFA - as happened after the 2022 final - to help learn lessons for future showpiece events.
The club believe there are definitely lessons to be learned going forward and asked UEFA for a meeting to discuss the testimonies and evidence that they have sent over. Despite not responding to requests for comment for this and several other articles in the Manchester Evening News - the only public statement has been from president Aleksandr Ceferin's comment that "not everything was perfect" for fans - it is understood that UEFA have agreed to discuss the club's findings with them.
