Xbox Game Pass has been “invaluable” to ‘Planet Of Lana’

Planet Of Lana, developer Wishfully and publisher Thunderful have told NME that it was the right call to make the platformer a day-one Xbox Game Pass title.Planet Of Lana launched for Xbox and PC on May 23, and was available from day one on Xbox’s Game Pass subscription service — joining the likes of Redfall, High On Life, and Hi-Fi Rush in doing so.While there have been questions on whether Game Pass cannibalises the sales of games on its catalogue, Adam Stjärnljus — Planet Of Lana’s creative director and Wishfully’s co-founder — says it was the right choice for his team.“For us at Wishfully, being an indie studio releasing our first game, it has been invaluable,” Stjärnljus tells NME. “It lowers the entry bar for players to discover and try our game with a huge potential to bring over players that normally might not gravitate towards the puzzle platformer genre as well.

The former is where players will meet friends and foes, spurring their quest through the stars onwards, and the latter are resource-heavy and possess risks and rewards.

‘Stalker 2’ studio asks fans to ignore leaks following pro-Russian hack

Stalker 2: Heart Of Chornobyl developer GSC Game World has confirmed that it’s been the victim of a hack, following claims that “a huge amount of materials” from the game would be leaked if the Ukrainian studio does not apologise to Russian fans.Details of the hack first surfaced on Saturday (March 11) when a user from Russian social media site VK claimed to have “tens of gigabytes” of content taken from Stalker 2, including the game’s story, maps and cutscene information. The statement was accompanied by a number of unreleased screenshots and concept art from the game.In the post, the hacker demanded that GSC Game World “rethink [its] attitude towards players from Belarus and Russia,” remove the ban on the hacker’s account from Stalker 2‘s official Discord, and announce a Russian-localised version of Stalker 2.Currently, Stalker 2 is not available for purchase in Russia. The hacker has threatened to release the stolen Stalker 2 footage if GSC Game World does not comply by March 15 and claimed that “it is not necessary to spoil the game for people because of politics”.Yesterday (March 12) GSC Game World confirmed that although an employee had been hacked, it had no plans to comply with the hacker.A message from GSC Game World team pic.twitter.com/rqRM0tFZmO— S.T.A.L.K.E.R. The game went on to launch in October, with NME naming it as one of the best games of 2022.In an interview published yesterday (March 2), Galante told GameSpot that a sequel to Vampire Survivors is unlikely due to the game’s design.“With the way Vampire Survivors is designed, we can deliver both new content and new game mechanics on the existing game, so why make a sequel?” asked Galente.

‘Blood Bowl 3’ gets “mostly negative” Steam reviews over “embarrassing” launch

Blood Bowl 3 was finally released yesterday (February 23) but already has a “mostly negative” rating on Steam.Developed by Cyanide Studio, the sequel to 2015’s Blood Bowl 2 sees “the iconic death sport return with the new video game of fantasy football faithfully using the latest board game rules.” Players are tasked with creating their team “then crush, mulch and cheat your way to the top… leaving your opponents in the graveyard.”An Early Access launch for Blood Bowl 3 was delayed in 2021 with the turn-based combat game’s full release then pushed back from February 2022 to 2023.“The pandemic has impacted production times, and these new dates will allow our development teams to give their fans polished games without compromising on our quality targets,” said Nacon’s head of publishing Benoît Clerc at the time. But over a year later than planned, it seems Blood Bowl 3 may not be worth the wait. Just 26 per cent of the 460 reviews on Steam are positive with fans unhappy about skills not being implemented and the fact the only difference between the released game and the Early Access version is more teams.“All of the development effort has gone into the microtransactions store for cosmetics,” wrote one review.

‘Slime Rancher 2’ sales surpass developer’s “pipe dream” in just 6 hours

Slime Rancher 2, from Monomi Park, has surpassed its developer’s wildest expectations for launch sales in just the first six hours after launch. The sequel to the popular slime-farming title launched into Early Access on September 22 for PC and Xbox Series X|S and has already become a runaway success for the developer.Speaking to GamesRadar, game director Nick Popovich revealed that the game had more than surpassed the developer’s internal expectations for the game – and that his “pie in the sky” dream for the game’s launch sales was surpassed in a matter of hours.“The level of support we’ve received from our community and partners is beyond anything we could have imagined,” said Popvich. “I had in my head a kind of crazy pipe dream for launch that maybe we could sell 100k copies in the first 24 hours and we’ve eclipsed that in less than 6 hours, with Overwhelmingly Positive reviews on Steam on top of it all.”Popovich also celebrated the game’s early success in another Tweet, revealing that a single hour’s worth of sales had exceeded the developer’s best sales day by “a literal order of magnitude.”Slime Rancher 2 seems to be a success story across the board – with an “Overwhelmingly Positive” score on the game’s Steam page with (at the time of writing) 3,773 reviews. The sequel sees the return of the original game’s protagonist Beatrix LeBeau, who has a whole new area to explore, Rainbow Island, alongside new additions to its lineup of friendly-looking slimes.Slime Rancher 2 tasks players with farming these slimes in order to earn Newbucks, a currency used to further upgrade their ranch and tools.
