Over the past several weeks, HBO has been putting together the cast and crew that will bring the incredibly popular video game franchise, “The Last of Us,” to life. And while video game fans are probably excited just from knowing that the premium network is going to do a big-budget adaptation, film and TV fans that have little interest in the game will be jazzed by the most recent announcement of two directors that will helm episodes of the series.

With “Mortal Kombat” arriving in theaters and on HBO Max next week, video game adaptations are in the news yet again.

So, it’s a “Game Of Thrones” reunion of sorts over at HBO.

The upcoming HBO series adaptation of “The Last of Us” just got a whole lot bleaker. “Beanpole” director Kantemir Balagov has reportedly been tapped to direct the pilot for the upcoming adaptation of the popular post-apocalyptical adventure game.

In just a few days, “Animal Crossing” fans will be able to travel to an island paradise and build a community when “New Horizons” finally releases. For gamers with fairly different tastes, on that same day, “Doom: Eternal” will allow those at home to battle through the demonic forces of hell. Either way, it’s an escape.

The popular action-adventure survival horror video game, The Last of Us is all set to be adapted as an HBO series and the project will be helmed by Chernobyl writer Craig Mazin. Neil Druckmann, the creator of the original game, will join Craig in developing the project. They will pen the script and also serve as the executive producers, The Verge reported. The video game, which came out in 2013, is set in the post-apocalyptic United States where a fungal plague nearly destroyed humanity.
