A Charmin Ad Next to an ‘SNL’ Sketch? NBC Says Placement Was ‘Coincidental’

Brian Steinberg Senior TV Editor As is the case with most things related to toilet paper, this might get a little messy. An ad for Procter & Gamble’s Charmin toilet tissue ran adjacent last week on Peacock to a “Saturday Night Live” sketch making fun of the product’s long-running ad campaign that features blue bears talking about the benefits of keeping their posteriors clean, and in doing so, sparked a new round of online chatter about how involved advertisers can get in “SNL” content decisions. They typically can’t. NBC says the appearance of the ad next to the skit was “coincidental,” and not put in place at the request of Procter & Gamble, which has manufactured Charmin since acquiring the product in 1957. Procter, one of the nation’s largest TV advertisers, did not respond to a query seeking comment.

The sketch starred the premiere’s host Miles Teller and cast member Andrew Dismukes as sports stars and brother’s Peyton and Eli Manning, in a parody of their “Monday Night Football” commentary show “Manningcast.” However, instead of analyzing the plays of a football game, the two instead turned their insight into the opening sketch of “Saturday Night Live’s” new season. At the top of the sketch, Teller as Peyton addressed the shakeups that the series has gone through other the summer, which saw eight cast members — Chris Redd, Alex Moffat, Aristotle Athari, Melissa Villasenor, Pete Davidson, Kate McKinnon, Aidy Bryant and Kyle Mooney — announce their departures from the long-running sketch comedy series. “There are a lot of changes at the show, which could be exciting,” Teller said. “Let’s see what they came up with.”

Queen Elizabeth was 'signing off' in 'brilliant' Jubilee Paddington sketch, says creator

As the nation joins together in mourning following the passing of Queen Elizabeth II, tributes have been pouring in from all over the world from heads of state and famous faces. One of the country's most recent, collective and fondest memories of Queen Elizabeth II came very recently when, during her Platinum Jubilee celebrations, Her Majesty starred in a sketch with none other than Paddington Bear. Appearing on BBC News on Friday, the director of the already iconic sketch, Frank Cottrell-Boyce, told the inside story of its creation and praised the late monarch for her "brilliant" and "amazing" acting skills.

K.J. Yossman Frank Cottrell Boyce, who co-wrote two of Queen Elizabeth II’s most iconic on-screen cameos – at the 2012 Olympics opening ceremony with Daniel Craig and this year’s Jubilee sketch with Paddington Bear – said the monarch had “brilliant” comic timing and could have been an actor. “She’s absolutely glowing in that moment,” he said of her appearance alongside Paddington in the 2-minute long sketch, which commenced her Platinum Jubilee celebrations in July. “And you’ve got to remember that that’s real acting that’s going on there. Paddington isn’t really in the room. She’s acting with an eye-line and with someone pretending to be Paddington. That’s proper acting going on. But I also think it’s true happiness.”

Watch Eminem join Pete Davidson for final ‘SNL’ sketch

Pete Davidson‘s final sketches for Saturday Night Live, the comedian called upon Eminem to help pay tribute to the show’s creator Lorne Michaels. It was announced earlier this week that a number of cast members would be bidding farewell to the late night sketch show at the end of its 47th season which came to a close last night (May 21).The cast members leaving the show include Davidson, Kate McKinnon, Addy Bryant and Kyle Mooney, all of whom bid farewell to Studio 8H in their own way during last night’s season finale.Davidson’s farewell reflected on his first-ever appearance on the showin a segment alongside Colin Jost on the ‘Weekend Update’ desk. He then thanked SNL “for always having my back, for allowing me to work on myself and grow” and “for never giving up on me or judging me even when everyone else was”.The ‘Weekend Update’ wasn’t the only sendoff for Davidson: in a Cut for Time sketch, the comedian delivered a third and final Eminem parody dedicated to his mentor and SNL creator Lorne Michaels, much to the irritation of the Detroit rapper himself.Flipping Dr. Dre and Eminem’s 2000 hit ‘Forgot About Dre’ into ‘Forgot About Lorne’, Davidson – using deepfake technology – paid tribute to Michaels’ legacy while namechecking a number of past cast members that went to become household names because of Michaels. However, Davidson’s tribute gets cut short when Eminem stops by the studio and shuts the production down, lambasting the comedian for his Slim Shady-themed parodies over his SNL tenure. “Please, stop.
