The Game Awards 2023, the annual celebration of all things gaming, is scheduled for the early hours of tomorrow (December 8) in the UK. The Game Awards 2023, Sega announced five new titles including a new Jet Set Radio game and a new Crazy Taxi game.During the show, Sega revealed that new instalments of Jet Set Radio, Streets Of Rage, Golden Axe, Shinobi, and Crazy Taxi are all in development.“In recent years, Sonic the Hedgehog has forged new paths for Sega, bringing the franchise to life and reaching new audiences in ways we had only dreamed of in the past,” chief executive officer (CEO) of Sega America, Shuji Utsumi said in a press release.“Building off that success, we are digging into our legacy and reimagining several franchises to bring these games to more audiences around the globe,” he continued.According to Utsumi, the announcement is “just the start of our initiative”.“First and foremost, our ambition will be to create great games with memorable characters and worlds.

Like A Dragon Gaiden: The Man Who Erased His Name will not feature an English dub when it launches on November 9 – this will instead arrive in a post-launch patch.Voice actor Yong Yea, who plays protagonist Kazuma Kiryu in the game, pointed out the fine print on publisher Sega’s official website for Like A Dragon Gaiden: The Man Who Erased His Name in a post to X.Since Like A Dragon: Gaiden is a few weeks away and many may not know about this, thought I should let you know the English dub will not be available on the 11/8 launch date and will release as a post-launch patch (no official date yet).

Creative Assembly, the developer of Total War, has announced that this week’s cancellation of Hyenas has led to layoffs.Sega Sammy stated that it expected “record losses of approximately 14.3 billion yen [£78.6million]” in this fiscal year and as a result, “structural reforms aimed at increasing efficiency” were necessary.Hyenas had a closed beta last month, signifying that the sci-fi extraction shooter was approaching a potential release in some shape or form. Sega Of America have successfully voted to unionise, after their attempts to organise went to an election.On Monday (July 10), Sega Of America workers voted 91-26 in favour of forming the Allied Employees Guild Improving Sega (AEGIS-CWA).With members joining from a number of disciplines throughout Sega Of America’s California headquarters, AEGIS-CWA is now the largest multi-department union within the game industry.It’s a significant milestone for growing unionisation efforts across the game industry, as Sega is one of the world’s largest gaming publishers. Besides creating Sonic The Hedgehog, Sega is best known for owning the studios behind Persona, Total War, Like A Dragon, and Football Manager.“We are overjoyed to celebrate our union election win as members of AEGIS-CWA.

Sega has now stepped back from its previously planned blockchain initiatives for fear of “devaluing” its strongest gaming properties, saying the technology is yet to show its maximum potential.In a new interview, the company’s co-chief operating officer Shuji Utsumi said that the move to blockchain might have been viewed as an interesting investment, but Sega’s motivation is to be ahead of the masses.“For the majority of people in the video game industry, what blockchain advocates say may sound a bit extreme, but that’s how the first penguin has always been,” he told Bloomberg, making a metaphor about risk-takers. “We should never underestimate them.”Nevertheless, Sega will be “[withholding] its biggest franchises from third-party blockchain gaming projects to avoid devaluing its content.” As a result, that doesn’t affect the present plans for Three Kingdoms and Virtua Fighter characters to be turned into non-fungible tokens or the newest Sangokushi Taisen blockchain game from developer Double Jump Tokyo.Sega is also “shelving plans to develop its own games in that [blockchain] genre, at least for now.” Utsumi continued to criticise play-to-earn games too, calling them “boring” and pointless for pulling the “fun” out of gaming.The company is not the only business to be dabbling in blockchain, NFTs and web3.

Company Of Heroes 3 developer Relic Entertainment has released its “first major update” for the strategy game, bringing new challenges and cosmetics along with a long list of bug fixes.The patch, titled Operation Sapphire Jackal, was released yesterday (March 28). According to patch notes it brings “a substantial number of bug fixes, quality of life improvements, gameplay balance adjustments, and all new features and content”.Those new features include the addition of challenges, which task players with completing daily and weekly in-game objectives to earn Merit, a new in-game currency.While Merit can be earned by completing challenges, the patch has also added a second new currency – War Bonds – that can only be purchased with real money.Both currencies can be spent on Company Of Heroes 3‘s in-game store, which the latest patch has updated with new cosmetics for every faction.In the below video, Steve Mele, Company Of Heroes 3‘s executive producer, shared that the update has also brought “over 1,300 bug fixes, changes and improvements” to the strategy game.“Some highlights include a small update to unique player colours, improved sound for map pings, updates to several unit portraits and icons, and even an all-new voiceover for the Gurkha infantry,” shared Mele.Mele added that while a “more robust” balance update is still in the works, a number of changes have been included in this patch including tweaks for overperforming Pathfinders and M13/40 tanks.Company Of Heroes 3 launched for PC last month.

Sega has joined a number of other game publishers in missing E3 this year, leading to the game industry questioning whether the Los Angeles convention will still go ahead.As reported by IGN, Sega said that “after careful consideration, we have decided not to participate in E3 2023 as an exhibitor. We look forward to sharing more information on announced and unannounced projects in the future.”IGN found that Tencent will also be skipping E3 2023, and claimed that more publishers will not be attending but are yet to make an announcement.The news comes just days after Ubisoft confirmed it would not be attending E3, with the Assassin’s Creed developer deciding to “move in a different direction” and host its own live event in June.Both companies join Xbox and Nintendo in skipping E3 2023, while it’s been reported that Sony will also miss the convention.

Bandai Namco is set to open a new arcade in Tokyo’s Akihabara district, taking over a building previously occupied by Sega.The new arcade, set to open on March 1, will be situated in the same building that previously housed the popular Sega Akihabara Arcade 4. Company Of Heroes 3 has been pushed back to 2023, with publisher Sega explaining that some “additional time” is needed to polish the game before launch.Though Company Of Heroes 3 was planned to launch on November 17, it will now launch on February 23, 2023.Addressing the delay, Sega shared that “Relic required some additional time to work on the overall improvement, balancing, and fine-tuning of Company Of Heroes 3 to ensure they’ll meet player expectations and deliver the deepest tactical experience in the series yet.”Since being announced in 2021, Relic has outlined several changes that its upcoming strategy game will bring to the series – including a turn-based campaign map, improved environmental destruction, and more detailed units.We got to preview Company Of Heroes 3 at this year’s Gamescom showcase, and found that it’s “shaping up to be a runaway hit for the series, with a phenomenal new campaign map and brutal skirmish mode.”“From a hands-on with the game, it’s hard to imagine Company Of Heroes ever going back to how it previously did things,” praised our preview. “A new campaign map handles Company Of Heroes 3‘s country-wide story: players will shuffle their forces across Italy, capturing and defending key objectives in their fight against Germany.

Sega has confirmed that the Mega Drive Mini 2 will launch later this year, and feature over 60 titles including Streets Of Rage 3 and Ecco The Dolphin.The Mega Drive Mini 2 will release in Europe on October 27, the same day the Genesis Mini 2 releases in North America.The console was first announced back in June. Sonic Team head Yuji Naka has confirmed that Michael Jackson created music for Sonic The Hedgehog 3.In a tweet posted today (June 23), Naka – who was also the producer for Sonic The Hedgehog 3 – confirmed a long-running rumour that Michael Jackson created music for the game.“Oh my god, the music for Sonic 3 has changed, even though Sega Official uses Michael Jackson’s music,” said Naka, expressing disappointment over Sega’s decision to change the music of Sonic The Hedgehog 3 for its re-release in Sonic Origins.One of the tracks changed in Sonic Origins is ‘Carnival Night Zone’, one of the songs that Jackson was rumoured to have created. It includes eight more games than the 42 that came with the original Mega Drive Mini.While there’s no worldwide release date confirmed at the time of publication, there was only a few week’s difference between the European and Australian release date of the 2019 Mega Drive Mini and its release in the rest of the world, so it may be a similar case.The host of the stream, Yosuke Okunari, notably stated back in 2020 that the next mini console from Sega could be based on the SG-1000 or Dreamcast.

Sega has announced an upcoming broadcast via its Japanese Twitter account today (May 27) scheduled for next week.The relatively cryptic Tweet includes a picture of what looks like a Sega Mega Drive controller cake. As translated via Twitter itself, the caption reads; “Urgent notice!
