Soundgarden and late frontman Chris Cornell‘s widow Vicky have settled their long-standing legal dispute and will release the band’s final recordings.In 2019, Cornell filed a lawsuit against the remaining members of the band and their manager over the rights to several unreleased Soundgarden songs, claiming the tracks entitled her to “hundreds of thousands of dollars” in royalties.The case was finally settled earlier in 2021 as a judge ruled that there was no evidence to suggest that the band’s surviving members are withholding royalties from Cornell.Elsewhere, Cornell filed a separate case in court against the band after they attempted to buy out her stake in her late husband’s band for what she has called a “ludicrously low” price, while the band also took Cornell to court in 2021, claiming that she had locked them out of the official Soundgarden social media accounts.Now, a joint statement from the band and Cornell reveals that they have settled their dispute and “reached an amicable out of court resolution”.It added: “The reconciliation marks a new partnership between the two parties, which will allow Soundgarden fans around the world to hear the final songs that the band and Chris were working on.”“The two parties are united and coming together to propel, honour and build upon Soundgarden’s incredible legacy as well as Chris’s indelible mark on music history – as one of the greatest songwriters and vocalists of all time.”A post shared by Chris Cornell (@chriscornellofficial)Chris Cornell died by suicide on May 18, 2017. Mobarek has nearly two decades of experience in branding and marketing, most recently running Mob Creative, which she also founded. Prior to Mob, Mobarek led the marketing department at Ultra Music, working with Calvin Harris, Steve Aoki, Pitbull, and deadmau5; she also ran the pop imprint Lefthook under Sony Music while still a student at New York University’s Stern School of Business, and held posts at live music company SFX (now Lifestyle) as well as Beatport. Offset has reportedly filed a lawsuit against Quality Control – the record label of Migos – over ownership of his solo recordings.According to court documents obtained by Variety, Offset alleges that Quality Control is claiming ownership over his recent solo work despite his claim he bought back the rights to the music last year.In the complaint, the rapper claimed that the label’s alleged hold as “wrongful” and that it “knowingly violates Offset’s rights to his own music.”As reported in Pitchfork, Offset is reportedly seeking a judgment to ensure that Quality Control maintains no rights, title, or interest in his solo work.Offset is claiming that Quality Control violated their settlement by asserting ownership over his recent, Baby Keem-produced solo cut “5 4 3 2 1.”The rapper alleges that Quality Control demanded that Motown “publicly (though falsely) list Quality Control as holding an ownership interest in the recording of ‘5 4 3 2 1,'” according to reports.NME has reached out to representatives of Offset and Quality Control for comment.Meanwhile, rumours of Migos’ breakup have been reported for some time following the release of ‘Hotel Lobby’, when it was reported that Offset had unfollowed both of his bandmates on Instagram.Less than a month later, in June, Migos pulled out of their scheduled performance at the 2022 Governors Ball festival, with organisers for the event saying they would no longer appear “due to circumstances out of [their] control”.‘Us Vs. Quality Control continues to hold interest in Migos as a group, but Offset alleges that the label’s ownership claim over his solo recording and songwriting is “wrongful and knowingly violates Offset’s rights to his own music.” The rift has apparently been present for some time, as the other two group members, Quavo and Takeoff, have been performing without Offset and are set to perform as Migos — but without him — on Saturday at NRG Stadium in Houston.

The agreement is between UMG and the Zappa trust — comprising the musician’s children Moon, Dweezil, Ahmet and Diva Zappa — and spans his four-decade career.

Prior to its deal with Irving Azoff’s Iconic Artists Group which was announced last week, the Nat King Cole estate sold a stack of the late musician’s recordings to Universal Music, it has now emerged.Cole had a career-long relationship with Capitol Records, which was acquired by Universal when it bought the EMI record company back in 2012. However, in the latter part of his career a by then famous Cole negotiated a deal with Capitol that allowed him to retain the rights in his later recordings, which he then licensed back to the label.According to Forbes, the estate sold those rights to Universal in a deal worth somewhere between $10 million and $20 million.

Slipknot‘s Corey Taylor has announced that he’s set to release a B-sides album of his solo debut record ‘CMFT’ this month.‘CMFT’ came out last year, and as Taylor explained in a new interview, the accompanying album is due on February 25 and will feature acoustic recordings and cover versions from the album’s sessions.Speaking on SiriusXM’s Trunk Nation With Eddie Trunk, he revealed details about the record, saying: “The first single will actually be February 11th, and people will be able to download that. It’s our cover of ‘On The Dark Side’ by John Caffery & the Beaver Brown Band, which is one of the best rock tunes ever. It’s one of our favourites to play live…“The ‘CMFT’ B-sides will come out February 25th,” he added.

Sony Music yesterday announced that it has fully acquired Bob Dylan’s entire recordings catalogue in a deal that was actually concluded last July.Dylan has had a career long relationship with Sony’s Columbia label, so the big deal expands his existing partnership with the major. Specifics of the transaction are not known though – as with the deal he did with Universal around his songs catalogue – it likely gives Sony complete ownership and control of all the rights and royalties linked to his music – but in this case his recordings – in return for a mega-bucks upfront payment.In its announcement, Sony also confirmed that it would continue working with Dylan on catalogue releases, including future editions in his long-running ‘Bootleg Series’ of albums, and that the deal also provides it with “the opportunity … to partner with Dylan on additional projects”.Confirming the deal, Sony Music boss Rob Stringer said: “Columbia Records has had a special relationship with Bob Dylan from the beginning of his career and we are tremendously proud and excited to be continuing to grow and evolve our ongoing 60 year partnership”.“Bob is one of music’s greatest icons and an artist of unrivalled genius”, he added.
