Taylor Swift‘s ‘1989 (Taylor’s Version)’ has reportedly earned the biggest opening week on the UK Albums chart this year.Swift originally released ‘1989’ in 2014, when the album scored 90,000 sales in its opening week. In 2023, she has sold more than double that amount with her re-recording.

Starz plans to lay off 10% of its staff and exiting the UK and Australia ahead of its separation next year from Lionsgate.

Selome Hailu As Starz prepares to separate from parent company Lionsgate in 2024, it will reduce its staff size by 10%. Starz will also cease business operations in the U.K.

Anna Marie de la Fuente A&E Ole Networks has acquired a seven-pic Christmas package from Argentine-based EO Media Distribution. The Xmas-themed TV movies produced by Nicely Entertainment will be airing on Lifetime Latin America and the Caribbean during the holiday season.

Michaela Zee FX has released the official trailer for the series adaptation of “Shogun,” starring Hiroyuki Sanada and Cosmo Jarvis. Based on James Clavell’s 1975 novel of the same name, the 10-episode limited series is set in Japan in the year 1600 and follows Lord Yoshii Toranaga (Sanada), who must fight for his life after his enemies on the Council of Regents unite against him. The official logline reads, “When a mysterious European ship is found marooned in a nearby fishing village, its English pilot, John Blackthorne (Jarvis), comes bearing secrets that could help Toranaga tip the scales of power and devastate the formidable influence of Blackthorne’s own enemies — the Jesuit priests and Portuguese merchants.

FX has finally released its first trailer for Shōgun, its original adaptation of James Clavell’s bestselling novel that was created for television by Rachel Kondo and Justin Marks.

Anna Marie de la Fuente Chile’s BF Distribution, among the leading distributors in Latin America, has picked up Latin American and Spanish distribution rights to “El Silencio de Marcos Tremmer” with BF Distribution partners Carlos Hansen and Matias Cardone of Invercine Chile boarding the pic as executive producers. Shot in the Dominican Republic, Uruguay and Madrid, it was helmed by Spanish director Miguel García de la Calera (“Caribbean, All-Inclusive”) and is currently in post. The film stars Benjamín Vicuña (“Mienteme,” “Locked Up”), Adriana Ugarte (Pedro Almodovar’s “Julieta”), Daniel Hendler (a Berlin best actor winner for “Lost Embrace”) and Felix Gomez (“La caza”).

Both are sold, and Cardozo’s “Do Not Enter” produced by Guido Rud’s FilmSharks as sales agents, as this week’s American Film Market attests, are driving ever more into horror genre. Unlike action thrillers and romantic comedies, the other go-to movie types in a market ever more attuned to streamer tastes, that could be that horror doesn’t need name actors.

Delving into the theme of rebirth in the face of profound trauma, “Los Impactados” follows Ada, portrayed by Mariana Di Girólamo (Pablo Larraín’s “Ema” ), whose unusual journey begins when she is struck by lightning, leading her on a fascinating transformation alongside a mysterious doctor, played by Germán Palacios, the lead from “El Último Hereje.” Along the way, she forms a bond with a group of fellow survivors who find themselves increasingly captivated by the power of electricity.

Cata Balzano The 10th anniversary edition of Miami’s Gems Film Festival will get underway in November, promising a four-day line-up of 26 films that feature diversity and highlight more than famous faces from the awards season circuit. The festival, a fall offshoot of the Miami Film Festival hosted by Miami Dade College, will run from Nov. 2-5 this year.

Hailed by Variety as “a seductively structured and superbly acted suspenser that breathtakingly piles swindle upon scam without giving away the game until the very end,” it was written and directed by the late Fabian Bielinsky and became the biggest box office hit in his native Argentina in at least 10 years.

The 2023 Billboard Music Awards nominees have been revealed!

Chris Willman Senior Music Writer and Chief Music Critic Taylor Swift‘s big year is being further commemorated with a leading 20 nominations for the 2023 Billboard Music Awards, followed by SZA and Morgan Wallen, who each have 17 nominations in a total of 16 categories. Other stars with a big look in the BBMAs nominations include the Weeknd, a finalist for 16 awards with 17 entries; Drake, who’s up for 14 awards; and first-time finalist Zach Bryan, who’s contending with 14 nominations in 13 categories. The winners in the data-driven awards will be revealed Nov.
