Baby owls rescued from under Glastonbury’s Pyramid Stage named after Guns N’ Roses

Glastonbury have been named after members of Guns N’ Roses. The first of the two owl chicks was found by a festival-goer under the left steps of the Pyramid Stage, during the rock group’s two-and-a-half hour headline set on Saturday (June 24).The punter gave the rescued owl the name Axl — after the band’s frontman Axl Rose — and it was taken to the RSPCA West Hatch Wildlife near Taunton, before being transferred to a Somerset-based wildlife charity, Secret World Wildlife Rescue.Within just one day of Axl being located beneath the main stage, a second chick was found in the same space and also taken to the rescue centre.Thought to be the sibling of Axl, the chick was given the name Slash — in homage to the moniker of the Guns N’ Roses guitarist Saul Hudson. The team at Secret World Wildlife Rescue (SWWR) in Somerset said the recovery was “the most unusual disturbance case” this year.A post shared by Slash (@slash)Fundraising Manager at Secret World Wildlife Rescue, David Plant, also issued a statement about the discovery of the two owls, and said that they “must have been terrified” after nearly two full days of loud music (via The Independent).“When Guns N’ Roses were playing ‘Welcome to the Jungle’, I’m sure they didn’t realise how close they actually were to wildlife,” he began.

Glastonbury 2023: Glen Matlock on playing with Blondie, solo work and “self-centred nitwit politicians”

Sex Pistols guitarist Glen Matlock caught up with NME backstage at Glastonbury 2023 to tell us about returning to the festival to play with Blondie and his successful solo career. After being announced last year to appear on Blondie’s new album – the follow-up to 2017’s ‘Pollinator‘ – the punk veteran has also been playing with the art-pop icons for recent world tour commitments, performing to a huge Pyramid Stage on the closing day of Glastonbury on Sunday (June 24).Before he took to the stage, NME asked the bass legend if he could recall the first time he met the band.“I can’t remember exactly because I was probably really drunk and out of it, but I think I met them first when I did a for-one-night-only gig with Sid Vicious at the Electric Ballroom in ‘78 or ‘79,” he replied. “Blondie turned up as a band, and I think that’s when I met Clem [Burke] and Debbie [Harry] for the first time.“What I thought was quite sweet about them was that when bands go on tour and have a night off, everyone tends to filter off somewhere – but they always seemed to be out and about as a band.

Glastonbury 2023: Guns N’ Roses’ live agency blames BBC for poor sound

Guns N’ Roses has blamed the BBC for poor sound quality during he band’s Glastonbury set.The ’80s rock icons took to the stage as headliners on Saturday (June 24) and delivered a mammoth 24-song setlist comprising fan favourites ‘Welcome To The Jungle’ and ‘Sweet Child O’ Mine’.For some fans watching the set at home, however, the footage was rife with technical issues, in particular relating to the vocals of singer Axl Rose.Taking to social media to complain about the sound quality throughout the set, which reportedly saw the singer’s vocals dip in and out throughout the set, the issue seemed exclusive to remote viewers, with no audience members at Worthy Farm seeming to experience the same issues.“The sound Quality for #GunsNRoses at #glastonbury2023 on #BBC is absolutely horrendous, can hardly make out the Vocals or Guitar riff! Sort it out lads!!!” wrote one Twitter user during the set.Another agreed, adding: “The fact the sound quality is better when recorded on your phone than it was on the telly highlights where the fault of the TV coverage lays and it’s not with @gunsnroses.”The sound Quality for #GunsNRoses at #glastonbury2023 on #BBC is absolutely horrendous, can hardly make out the Vocals or Guitar riff!Sort it out lads!!!— FarDreamer101 (@Fardreamer101) June 24, 2023The fact the sound quality is better when recorded on your phone than it was on the telly highlights where the fault of the TV coverage lays and it’s not with @gunsnroses— Lee Dopson (@LeeDopson) June 28, 2023What is wrong with the sound quality we can barely hear him sing over the music #GunsNRoses— suemarie (@suebaggy) June 24, 2023Trying to watch @gunsnroses from Glastonbury, but what the hell is with the terrible sound quality?— findis89

Noel Gallagher thinks Guns N’ Roses headlining Glastonbury is “crazy shit”

Noel Gallagher has shared his thoughts on Guns N’ Roses headlining Glastonbury this weekend, describing the bill topping slot as “crazy shit”.The US band will perform on the Pyramid Stage this Saturday (June 24), in between Arctic Monkeys on Friday (23) and Elton John on Sunday (25).The former Oasis musician, however, has questioned the thinking behind the decision, suggesting that the honour could have gone to a British act instead.“I thought, ‘What? Are you being serious? That’s crazy shit’,” he told the Daily Star‘s ‘Wired’ column, recalling the moment he found out Guns N’ Roses were headlining the iconic British festival.“When you think of all the huge British artists who’ve had albums out this past year, having Guns N’ Roses headlining the Saturday is mad.”Explaining his own absence from Worthy Farm this year – as both a performer and a punter – Gallagher, who released his new album ‘Council Skies’ with the High Flying Birds earlier this month, said his schedule didn’t allow for it.“I would have been smart to play Glastonbury this year, but I played it last year because I’d been booked to do it in 2020 and everything got pushed back,” he said.“There’s always next year to go back to Glastonbury – I’m not going anywhere.“Because of lockdown, the band hadn’t played together for ages – and touring again is joyous.”The singer also explained that he’ll be performing at some smaller festivals instead this year, including PennFest in Buckinghamshire, Splendour Festival in Nottingham and West Yorkshire’s Bingley Weekender.“What I like about boutique festivals is that pretty much everyone will go to see you,” he said.“That makes the festival more like one of our own gigs.

Clash fan exposes man who made £1.2m from fake vinyl records

The Clash has helped expose a man who made £1.2million from fake vinyl records.Richard Hutter had been selling counterfeit records over a six-year period and was given a suspended jail sentence at Bournemouth crown court earlier this week.He was caught out after a Clash fan demanded his money back because of the poor sound quality on the record he had bought online. When the refund was refused the customer complained to trading standards officers, who then bought two sample records from Hutter’s website, Guns N’ Roses‘ ‘Appetite For Destruction’ and ‘Songs For The Deaf’ by Queens Of The Stone Age. Both turned out to be fake.Hutter’s home address was searched in July 2018 as a result, with officers seizing his phone and laptop, as well as a number of counterfeit records and sleeves, according to The Guardian. In addition to selling the vinyls on his website, it was discovered that he had also been selling them through a US website and eBay.On eBay, he had listed almost 1,200 LPs in the space of one year and he charged customers up to £35 for the counterfeit albums. When questioned, Hutter denied knowing they were counterfeit records and said he had sourced them from Europe and sold them on.
