Proteas Women’s captain Dane van Niekerk is celebrating her 27th birthday. To celebrate the day of her birth we chatted to her to get to know a little bit more about her and what she has been doing in her free time during lockdown.

The Proteas Women made South Africa proud yesterday by qualifying for the Women’s T20 Cricket World Cup semi-finals. They achieved this goal when they made it three wins out of three by beating Pakistan by 17 runs in Sydney yesterday.

Faf du Plessis announced today that he is stepping down as captain of the Proteas’ Test and T20 teams effective immediately.  The 35-year-old cited a need to take a step back from captaincy in order to help facilitate the emergence of the next generation of leaders within the team under the new leadership of Quinton de Kock.

Cricket South Africa launched their Black Day campaign on Friday, adding their voice and commitment to the fight against femicide and violence against women in South Africa. The focus point of the campaign will be the T20 International match between the Proteas and Australia which will be played at Kingsmead in Durban on March 22 when both teams will wear black outfits in line with the overall theme.

Proteas wicket-keeper batsman Quinton de Kock is the new Proteas One Day International captain. Cricket South Africa made the announcement this afternoon.
