Meryl Streep said “saved the movies” in 2023 – may have been snubbed in some of the major categories at the 2024 Academy Awards. (Shout-out to Margot Robbie and Greta Gerwig!)But there is no stopping that arch-footed doll in at least one category — Best Original Song — where Billie Eilish is the overwhelming favorite to win her second Oscar for her brooding ballad “What Was I Made For?”Only another “Barbie” ditty, “I’m Just Ken,” even stands a chance at an upset.Just like “No Time to Die” — Eilish’s Bond theme that took the song-penning prize in 2022 — the tune that hauntingly humanizes Barbie was co-written by the singer’s producer brother Finneas.

Those poor stegosauruses.First, DeGeneres herself was knocked off her Queen of Daytime perch after allegations were made in a 2020 BuzzFeed article accusing the comic of lording over a “toxic workplace environment.” A resulting thread on Twitter, now called X — appropriately resembling a skull and crossbones — dubbed her “the meanest person alive.” Eeek!An “Ellen DeGeneres Show” source later told The Post, “The stories are all true!”.

At the event itself, Annie Lennox called for a ceasefire during her tribute to Sinéad O’Connor. The Post is told the Academy’s goal on Sunday is to support and celebrate artists and avoid politics and the political landscape. The Oscars security measures use long-standing protocols designed to prevent protesters attempting to interrupt the Sunday night show.An interruption would give protesters a platform among as many as 20 million Americans watching live, millions more around the world and a much larger social media audience.Sources at the Academy Awards said that the safety and security of attendees is paramount, adding that the organization would not tolerate any behavior that actively endangers, discriminates or causes bodily harm to attendees or members of its global film community.Anti-Israel demonstrators have increasingly targeted high-profile events.

Actors on thriving and surviving in the Hollywood awards season

The Hollywood awards season kicks into full gear this weekend with Sunday’s Golden Globes ceremony, and actors are pondering how to enjoy the onslaught of attention and survive the ups and downs.Britain’s Carey Mulligan, a two-time Oscar nominee who is vying this year for a Best Actress Golden Globe for her role in “Maestro,” cuts to the chase: “Oh, just enjoy it and have fun and don’t take it too seriously.”Mulligan said she is delighted by what she calls “a lovely sisterhood” of actresses nominated this year, including Margot Robbie, Emma Stone, Lily Gladstone and Greta Lee.Oscar-winning Stone, nominated for a Best Actress Golden Globe for “Poor Things,” acknowledged that the awards season is both “very nerve-wracking and very exciting.”On the arrivals line at the Palm Springs Film Festival this week, Golden Globe nominees shared their mix of elation, disorientation, and the need to take care of one’s mind, body, and spirit. The season runs through the Oscars on March 10 and includes several awards show stops and countless interviews.“It is a lot of attention on the project, that’s good, but at the same time I can understand how someone can get a little sideways with this runaway circus,” said Jeffrey Wright, nominated for best actor for “American Fiction,” adding, “I want our film to be seen.”Colman Domingo, vying for his first Golden Globe for best actor in “Rustin,” said the advice he gets from actors who have been through the awards season is to focus on self-care.“So don’t think about who is winning, don’t think about those things,” Domingo said.

Starting with the March 2024 awards, movies will not be considered for a Best Picture nomination unless they feature a lead or significant supporting character from an “underrepresented racial or ethnic group,” have a main storyline that focuses on an underrepresented group, or at least 30% of the cast comes from two or more underrepresented groups (women, ethnic minorities, LGBTQ or the disabled). It’s got some voting members of the Academy up in arms.“It’s completely ridiculous,” one director fumed to The Post.
