Ipswich Town confirm appointment of Lee Grant after summer Manchester United departure

Lee Grant will join Ipswich Town's backroom staff after leaving Manchester United this summer.

Grant, 39, has decided to retire and he'll join Kieran McKenna’s backroom staff ahead of Ipswich's pre-season in June. McKenna spent three years at United but left the club in December to become Ipswich's first team manager after Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was sacked.

McKenna was joined by former United coach Martyn Pert at Ipswich and Grant is now set to become part of that backroom staff. Although Grant made over 500 appearances in his career, he made just two first-team starts during his time at United.

Grant was even listed as a coach on some team sheets last season, but still signed a one-year contract extension last summer.

“This is a fantastic opportunity for me, and I am really looking forward to it," Grant told Ipswich after the announcement.

“I know Kieran and Martyn having worked with them at Manchester United and I loved the work we were being given from a playing perspective. Now I am excited about working with them again, albeit in a different role.

“I feel really blessed that I have been able to make the decision to retire and go straight into an exciting role with Ipswich Town. Over the last few years, I have been preparing for this moment by obtaining my coaching licences, expanding my network and working on a business degree. It has all been with the intention of being in a good place for a smooth transition at this point in my career.

“I could not be joining a club with a more exciting footing than Ipswich either. There is new ownership, new direction, a driven manager and a squad that is also hungry to go and achieve

GMB presenter takes swipe at 'old' Love Island as he announces launch date
Good Morning Britain presenter Richard Arnold was less than impressed when he announced the launch date for the eighth series of Love Island.During Wednesday’s (May 25) instalment of the beloved ITV morning show, the 52-year-old entertainment reporter confirmed the popular dating show will return to the airwaves on June 6.It’s fair to say doting fans are sat on the edges of their seats as they excited await to learn the names of the latest bunch of sexy singletons set to set foot inside the new and improved Spanish villa. But not everyone is as excited to see the return of the hit dating show, after the broadcaster struggled to hide his annoyance for the show while he covered the programme on air.He said: "I've got a text - oh that's going to get old isn't it? It really is - you don't have to cover it every day," as he continued to read out the text.He added: "Dickie, Love Island is back with a bang and a new villa to boot! Let the countdown begin #SummerStartsHere #LayItOnThick #RubThatFactor50 #IWantAllYourEggsInMyBasket." After the TV presenter announced the start date of the eighth series, Susanna rightly pointed out that GCSE and A Level exams won't have ended before the show airs. She added: "Hang on, it starts on the 6th of June? GCSE's and A Levels aren't over by then" as Richard agreed saying: "It is a stretch, isn't it?"It comes after new images of the luxury sic-bedroom villa aired which is set to include the iconic fire pit and an enormous infinity pool.

Kourtney Kardashian and Travis Barker's lavish Italy wedding mocked by GMB host
Kourtney Kardashian and Travis Barker’s lavish wedding nuptials became the butt of the joke after Good Morning Britain’s Richard Arnold mocked their third wedding ceremony.During Monday’s (May 23) instalment of the popular ITV morning show, the beloved entertainment reporter was joined by Susanna Reid, Richard Madeley and Ranvir Singh as they discussed the reality star couple’s latest romantic Italian wedding. The happy couple officially tied the knot over the weekend in a luxurious and intimate ceremony in the heart of Castello Brown in Portofino, Italy which was attended by a slew of celebrities including all of the Kardashian/ Jenner clan. And it was clear to see that no expense was spared for the stunning ceremony, as the raven-haired beauty donned a gorgeous white mini dress paired with an enormous floor-length veil on her big day.But as the 52-year-old broadcaster branded the ceremony the wedding of the year, he appeared to make a savage dig at the famous couple over their extravagant celebrations. As Susanna tucked into an unusual bar of chocolate, the mum-of-three quipped: “There’s a snack to congratulate and celebrate the wedding of Kardashian which you have this morning.”While Richard went on to introduce the segment, he couldn’t help but roll his eyes and use a deadpan voice as he replied: “Indeed, you’ve got to stretch yourself and catch up with the Kardashians these days …".Back to his usual presenting voice, he continued: “Because step aside Brookly Beckham and Nicola Peltz, the wedding of the year just got done after Kravis officially became a thing. And yes, to be clear, this time it’s official.“Kourtney Kardashian and Travis Barker have finally tied the knot.

Lorraine Kelly ‘looks better now’ than she did decades ago, GMB’s Richard Arnold claims
Lorraine Kelly "looks better now" than she did decades ago, according to ITV star Richard Arnold, 52, who was speaking about how they'd changed over the years. The Good Morning Britain presenter spoke exclusively to Express.co.uk about how he and Lorraine, 62, “look better now” than they did years ago while speaking at the Ideal Home Show, in partnership with NatWest.Richard has been the Entertainment Editor on ITV’s Good Morning Britain since 2014 and has been working in showbiz for over two decades. He previously worked for the channel’s predecessor GMTV, first starting out as a TV critic there in 1997.Lorraine helped launch GMTV back in 1993 and has also stayed with ITV over the years, continuing her self-titled show Lorraine under the new format.Reflecting on how it’s been working for the channel over many years, Richard said: “Well, I've seen a lot of changes, and my makeup isn't quite as orange as it used to be when we did GMTV, which wasn't altogether flattering.“I think what I find extraordinary - and it's like being in a soap opera in many respects…“When you see archived footage of you, if they play an old clip from when you were younger, you don't think that you've got any older necessarily.“But then when you see a picture of yourself when you first started out with frosted tips…“You just think, ‘Oh my goodness me, we really have all been through an awful long time together!’" he added.Speaking about his time with Lorraine on the channel, he continued: “Lorraine and I always joke about the fact that surely we look better now than we did back then.“Even though we're getting older now!” he added with a laugh.Richard went on to discuss how he felt to be Entertainment Editor at ITV, decades on from where he first

GMB's Kate Garraway says she's 'desperate' for work as Derek's health battle continues
Kate Garraway joked she is "desperate" for work as she hosting the latest edition of Good Morning Britain. The 55-year-old presenter was back on our screens on Thursday (May 5) morning to wake up the nation alongside Adil Ray.They chatted to showbiz corespondent Richard Arnold at the top of the ITV breaking show about Kim Cattrall's latest bombshell interview where she claimed she first heard about Sex In The City reboot And Just Like That on social media. She also revealed that she was never asked to take part in the show and that she turned down a pitched third movie as it involved a "heartbreaking" storyline for her character Samantha Jones.Richard confirmed to the ITV studio that Kim's character Samantha Jones "won’t be back" before adding: "So, unlike us Kate, she's actually turning work down."Kate and Adil collapsed into fits of laughter, before Kate replied: "Unlike us she's not desperate Richard, that's why."As Richard paused in the ITV studio, unaware there was time for him to discuss another story, mother-of-two Kate joked: "You're not as desperate as we thought, you see, you're actually turning work down this morning."Kate has reportedly lost her battle to save her husband Derek Draper's psychotherapy company, Astra Aspera Limited. The business was primarily Derek's company but Kate was made a director in February last year in an effort to keep it running, but she's reportedly struggling with a huge increase in costs.Despite her many work projects, Kate also has to fund round-the-clock care for her husband.Speaking recently on This Morning about her trip to Mexico for specialist treatment for Derek, Kate shared: "That came at a really low point when I thought, 'Oh God, this is not sustainable'."The system, I mean

'Upset' Charlotte Hawkins slams Justin Bieber as 'rude' video sparks her fury on GMB
Charlotte Hawkins was left feeling "upset" after she'd watched Justin Bieber's exclusive new music video on Good Morning Britain. The 46-year-old was hosting alongside Ben Shephard and joined by Richard Arnold who attended to discuss all things Showbiz on Friday's show (April 29).With the news that Justin's new hit had gone live at 5am this morning, the showbiz expert couldn't wait to reveal the exclusive clip of the singer's music video. While Richard seemed to be enjoying the moment, it's safe to say Charlotte was left less than impressed - and the TV starlet certainly did not withhold her views. As the trio watched the snippet from the ITV studio, Charlotte said: "It sort of looks like a spoof though doesn't it?"Co-star Ben also found something funny about the Canadian hitmakers voice. With Richard then chiming in: "It does, very Bond-esque isn't it? It's a beautiful location isn't it?"The video is for 'Honest' which is inspired, as I say, by a Bond film and by the looks of how he's holding his coffee, brings a whole new meaning to shaken and not stirred!"With the cameras returning to the Studio, Charlotte came into view as she told her co-stars how she'd felt upset with the footage, leaving them stunned as she hit out at Bieber on camera.

Good Morning Britain's Ranvir Singh savagely mocks Liam Payne after Oscars interview
Good Morning Britain star Ranvir Singh mocked Liam Payne's accent after his famous Oscars interview.Last month, former One Direction star Liam left viewers baffled when he spoke to GMB about Will Smith slapping comedian Chris Rock on stage at the annual award ceremony. The interview quickly went viral on social media, with many fans asking why the pop star appeared to be speaking in various accents, such as Welsh and American. Now, the singer is set to captain the star-studded England team at Soccer Aid alongside the likes of Tom Grennan and Robbie Williams. However, GMB presenter Ranvir Singh took a subtle dig at Liam's accent ahead of the annual charity football match on Thursday's GMB (April 28).She asked which accent Liam would be using to captain the team, given the numerous accents he seemed to use in the post-Oscars chat. The comments came during a Soccer Aid segment with her co-stars Richard Arnold and Tipping Point host Ben Shephard.Ranvir said: "I'm keen to know what accent Liam Payne will be using to captain his team."Ben replied: "Whatever he needs."Referencing the Oscars chat, Ranvir continued: "When he was on this show at the Oscars, he came out will all sorts of strange accents."Richard quipped: "My agent is currently looking at this going 'I get 10% of that!', which is not a lot."Ranvir then complimented Richard as she suggested: "You should get more than 10% of airtime in my view."Wolverhampton-born Liam had defended Will after the Oscars when he said: "I believe whatever he felt that he did, he had the right to do".He finally addressed the interview on an Instagram Live post where he admitted he'd had a lot to drink.Liam said: "I had asked Good Morning Britain, the presenter, I said, 'Please don’t ask me

GMB turns frosty as Susanna Reid shuts down her co-star Ed Balls on ITV show
Good Morning Britain star Susanna Reid brutally snubbed her co-host Ed Balls when the former MP tried dancing with her on camera.Susanna hosted the hit ITV breakfast show alongside former MP Ed on Tuesday (April 26), but it seemed like their relationship suffered a strain during the programme. She was back at the helm after leaving the studio to report live from the Polish-Ukrainian border on Monday, which meant Richard Madeley hosted the show solo. However, it seemed Susanna's return didn't come without an awkward on-air moment or two. That's because former Strictly star Ed tried to dance with her to Psy's viral 2013 hit Gangnam Style, which he famously danced to on the 2016 series of the BBC One show.Sadly for Ed, though, he was brutally rejected by Susanna who told him: "Less of that, I think."The cringe-inducing moment came during Richard Arnold's entertainment slot, where he discussed Anton Du Beke's future as a Strictly judge.Ed was clearly in his element with the Strictly theme playing in the background and started shaking his hips.Richard quipped that "all four of us have PTSD now," before Ranvir Singh said: "That's what the coffee did."Then Gangnam Style came on, and Ed tried to dance up close to Susannah, but she wasn't impressed. She quickly shifted away from her co-host and ask him: "I beg your pardon?" before telling him she didn't recognise his moves. There's MUCH more where that came from! Good Morning Britain presenter Richard Arnold spoke exclusively to Express.co.uk about his co-star Kate Garraway whilst presenting at the Ideal Home Show, in partnership with NatWest. The star began by talking about the support Kate was getting from their ITV team in light of her husband Derek Draper’s life-threatening battle with Covid, before going on to discuss her brave antics while competing on hit show I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! in 2019.Richard, 52, recalled watching his GMB colleague Kate, 54, compete on ITV’s I’m A Celebrity just before the pandemic completely changed everything.Kate is currently providing round-the-clock care for her husband Derek Draper, 54, who returned home from hospital in April 2021 after a year-long battle with Covid that almost cost him his life. The popular presenter competed on the 2019 series of I’m A Celebrity alongside the likes of Andy Whyment, Ian Wright, Nadine Coyle and series winner Jacqueline Jossa.Richard remembered how, before she had even entered the Australian jungle, Kate had to face a terrifying 334ft plank walk. When asked about Kate’s brave stint in the jungle, he said: “I know, I don't know how to this day she walked that plank.“That day they have the challenge for you to step out on the plank on that skyscraper…“I mean, that's the one thing I couldn't do - anything to do with heights,” he confessed.“In all honesty, if they threw me out of the plane, I'd be more grateful.“There's something about being on a man-made structure that chills my water,” he continued.“But if they're going to throw me from a balloon or a plane, and I'm strapped to someone who knows what they're doing, then I'd happily take that over walking the plank.”During the interview, Richard also

GMB's Kate Garraway says Adil Ray has 'nasty streak' as he calls co-star 'grandad'
Good Morning Britain's Kate Garraway has blasted her co-host, Adil Ray, saying he has a "nasty streak".The two hosts presented the ITV show on Tuesday (April 19) and welcomed showbiz reporter Richard Arnold onto the show to talk about the day's hot takes. However, as they introduced Richard's segment, Adil called Richard a "grandad".This was when Kate jumped in to Richard's defence and said that Adil had a "nasty streak" in him that morning.Unfazed by Adil's comments, Richard laughed it off and continued to present his showbiz section which included a potential Girls Aloud reunion and Liam Payne discussing his bizarre accent. As Richard was first shown on the programme, Adil said: "Alright Grandad?" Kate then said: "He's got a nasty streak in him this morning, I tell you, Adil. Calling you grandad..." Richard then quipped: "I can snatch a compliment every time he unlocks his jaw don't worry, that little twinkle of his." This comes a day after Kate and Adil were forced to apologise for a guest's language live on-air.Ukrainian businessman Andrey Stavnitser starred on the show to talk about bombing his own house after learning Russians had taken it over.Talking about his decision, after being branded a hero by the Ukrainian people, he said: "If you would ask me two months ago what feeling I would have if hostile military people in my house, I would say fury and anger.

GMB’s Richard Arnold recalls sitting in freezing cold jacuzzi in TV gig with Andrea McLean
Express.co.uk that he was asked to sit in the cold jacuzzi at the Ideal Home Show a number of years ago, while Andrea, 52, did the weather. The Good Morning Britain presenter shared the anecdote while speaking at this year’s Ideal Home Show, in partnership with NatWest. Richard has been the Entertainment Editor on ITV’s Good Morning Britain since 2014 and has been working in showbiz for over two decades. Andrea is probably best known for co-presenting ITV’s Loose Women between 2007 and 2020. However, both stars previously began working at GMTV in 1997 for a number of years, with Richard working as a TV critic and Andrea presenting the weather. Richard recalled one year he and Andrea attended the Ideal Home Show, the world’s longest-running home and interiors exhibition, and it left him feeling rather chilly. Speaking about his experience this year, he said: “I've met some great characters on the floor. “I’ve really enjoyed it and I haven't been here for many, many years. “I did a live broadcast from here with Andrea McLean back in the days of GMTV,” he remembered.  “And I was charged with the task of sitting in a hot tub at six o'clock in the morning for a live broadcast while Andrea did the weather. “And believe me, she was a lot warmer because at six o'clock in the morning, I can tell you the Ideal Home Show, whilst very professional, had not heated the jacuzzi," he laughed.Acknowledging the early start time he added: “And who could blame them frankly?” “So that was an interesting experience.

GMB’s Richard Arnold 'gobsmacked' by Emilia Jones’ transformation ahead of CODA Oscar win
BAFTAs earlier this month, shared his thoughts on Emilia Jones after she performed at the ceremony, where she was waiting to see if she would win the Best Actress award for her film CODA.Speaking from the Ideal Home Show, in partnership with NatWest, Richard revealed that he had known Emilia since she was “just a nipper” thanks to his friendship with her dad Aled Jones. Richard, 52, admitted that he was “gobsmacked” to see Emilia’s incredible transformation into a star in an exclusive interview with Express.co.uk. The Entertainment Editor for Good Morning Britain reflected on the young actress’ rise to fame and praised her stunning performance of Joni Mitchell’s Both Sides Now, which she also sings in the now Oscar-winning film CODA.Emilia, 20, was also nominated for a Best Actress BAFTA for portraying 17-year-old Ruby, the only hearing member of a deaf family.Reflecting on her rise to fame, Richard admitted that her confident performance left him “slack-jawed”. Remembering that night at the BAFTAs, he said: “I was lucky enough to catch up with Benedict Cumberbatch, Sir Kenneth Branagh and Emilia Jones, of course!”“Aled Jones’ daughter, who I hadn’t seen for years since she was knee-high. “Aled and Lorraine and I worked together on Daybreak before Good Morning Britain started, so I knew Amelia when she was a nipper. “And now of course she's this fabulous actress soaring to giddy heights.”When asked about how it was to see Emilia, who he had known as a little girl, take to the stage in the Royal Albert Hall, Richard admitted he was “gobsmacked”. He said: “It’s just extraordinary.
