When it comes to planning a city break the likes of Paris, Amsterdam and Barcelona are usually on the top of everyone's lists. But if you’ve exhausted them all, or just fancy a destination with an alternative feel, Istanbul in Turkey is the place to go.
Thanks to its unique location of straddling both the European and Asian continents, the city is a melting-pot of cultures and offers an experience unlike anywhere in Europe. Walk around every corner and you will discover somewhere different, be it relics from the Roman Empire or delicious local delicacies.
It takes around four hours to fly there directly from Manchester Airport, which may be pushing it when it comes to short haul flights - but trust me, it’s worth the effort. Now that summer is over and temperatures are cooling, it’s the perfect time to plan a trip to this incredible city.
