A cosy pub can be found on its own island less than an hour away from Manchester.
With incredible views overlooking the River Mersey, The Ferry Tavern is located on Station Road in Penketh, Warrington. The pub sits on an island strip forged at Fiddlers Ferry when the Sankey Canal was opened in 1762, the first canal of the industrial age.
The pub originally opened that same year - and has been providing refreshments for thirsty travellers for the past 260 years. Sitting on the Trans Pennine Trail, the beauty spot is popular with walkers, cyclists and families from Greater Manchester and all over the North West.
These days the Ferry Tavern is run by Jade and Andy Mulholland - the pub's 22nd licensees, reports the Liverpool Echo. The couple live on site with their sons Charlie, nine and Jack, aged three. Jade grew up in the pub after her parents, Pat and Terry, first took on the building in 1992, having run pubs in Merseyside and Cheshire.

Jade, 40, said: "I was 10 when I moved here and my brother would have been 16, they just wanted to have a slower pace of life really. The pubhad been derelict for two and a half years and then the brewery at the time, John Smith, approached my mum and dad and said 'we think this is a pub that would suit you' and they started from scratch.
"A lot of building work was done because it was damaged in a fire. The brewery did it up, building work was complete and we moved in before it was ready to open. I think it’s always kept a quite similar atmosphere.
