Rio Ferdinand has been impressed with Sofyan Amrabat’s start to life at Manchester United and believes the midfielder could help restore the correct culture within the club.
Amrabat has played two of his three United matches at left-back amid the defensive injury crisis Erik ten Hag is facing. The Moroccan played excellently in the League Cup win over Crystal Palace last week but couldn’t quite have the same effect against the Eagles in Saturday’s 1-0 defeat.
That said, Ferdinand is encouraged by what he has seen from the summer recruit so far. He believes the 27-year-old has the type of positive mentality that has the possibility to radiate throughout the squad.

Ferdinand told YouTube show FIVE: “What I like about him is that he’s a man. He’s a man who is going to go in there and start setting the tone.”
Ferdinand was joined by former Ghana, Milan and Portsmouth star Kevin Prince Boateng for his chat. The midfielder played alongside loanee Amrabat for six months at parent club Fiorentina.
Boateng hailed the character of Amrabat and unpacked why he thinks he will be a telling influence on the United squad. He said: “He’s really good. He’s a guy who is going to give you everything. He’s not the type of guy who is going to talk and get angry.
“He’s more like I’ll speak on the pitch. He’s going to show you, run box-to-box. He’s not a speaker. He’s every within himself but on the pitch he will give you everything. And this is what lifts people up.”
