Historic music shop to host free lessons this weekend - here's how you can pick up an instrument

One of Manchester's most iconic music stores will be amongst the venues and community spaces offering free music lessons this weekend.
Learn To Play, which is held by the Music For All charity, offers free taster sessions to budding musicians of all ages and abilities in a bid to help them try out new instruments and learn about the music services available locally.
More than 70 music stores, community spaces and studios across the country will be taking part in the flagship event - and there’s three stores in Greater Manchester where you will be able to pick up an instrument for free this weekend (October 7-8).

Forsyth Bros. Ltd in Deansgate will be hosting free sessions on Saturday and Sunday. Available to have a go of will be the acoustic guitar, bass guitar, cello, clarinet, electric guitar, flute, piano, keyboard, saxophone, trumpet, ukulele, viola and the violin.
Founded in 1857 by brothers James and Henry Forsyth, the business has been located at its home on Deansgate since the 1890s. Whilst the store will be hosting a series of pre-booked and drop-in lessons, booking is always advised and can be done on the Forsyth website.
Speaking about the event, the shop said: “Forsyths is delighted to welcome back Learn to Play Day, an event created by the charity Music For All, providing an opportunity for budding and former music makers to be able to try out a new instrument for free.
