After weeks of schedule shake-ups, Coronation Street fans were treated to a rare weekend episode on Sunday night (February 11). Due to the football airing last Wednesday, the ITV soap's usual airing pattern was altered so that viewers could still get their Weatherfield fix.
The episode saw Simon's excessive drinking came back to haunt him when he crashes a car and does a runner to avoid being caught for drink-driving. Following his dad Peter Barlow's exit from Weatherfield without saying goodbye, the character has been struggling to cope.
After a heavy night drinking at Carla Connor's flat with her nephew Bobby, Simon woke up from his hazy slumber but as his new pal tidied up, Simon surreptitiously took a swig of vodka. But once back home, the character ended up agreeing to take Sam Blakeman to his chess competition while Nick Tilsley headed out shopping with Toyah Habeeb.

Later, after Sam told Leanne that 'no one was hurt', Simon was forced to admit that he pranged her car but when she insisted they report it to the police, Simon refused and admitted he was over the drink-drive limit leaving Leanne horrified.
But Corrie fans couldn't help but comment on social media about the extent of the damage despite the crash. @StuartYoung001 said: "No way would there be that damage at that speed. #Corrie." @DavidJosephLaw2 commented: "Friggin hell
