Coronation Street star Claire Sweeney, who plays Cassandra "Cassie" Plummer in the ITV soap, has revealed when her character will be returning to the small screen alongside estranged mother Evelyn Plummer as fans had been wondering if they would come back.
Viewers had seen that just days after making her debut on the cobbles, Cassie and Evelyn left Weatherfield to get clean so she could meet her long-lost son Tyrone Dobbs and 52-year-old Claire has confirmed the date the duo will return.
Appearing on Lorraine on Wednesday, the actress said: "I'm back on August 16th on screen and I'm back in the thick of filming, working with the wonderful Alan Halsall [Tyrone]. He’s so good, and Maureen [Lipman, who plays Evelyn] , and Sally Carman [Abi Franklin] as well, I love it."
It comes as Claire admitted she is "very grateful" for making her debut on Corrie as Cassandra "Cassie" Plummer last month as Tyrone's long-lost mum and Evelyn's estranged daughter Cassie.
"Had so many lovely comments about my first scene in @itvcorrie with the amazing Dame Maureen Lipman. Written by @Iankershaw and directed by Abe Dukes. Thanks for all your kind words, feel very grateful," she wrote on Twitter.
And soap fans were quick to react to the news, with one writing on Twitter: "The best two-hander in serial drama for many a year - Maureen Lipman superb as ever with @clairesweeney knocking it right back at her. A masterclass in timing, delivery and believability - in other words- acting at its finest."
Someone else wrote: "So happy you've arrived, Loved watching you this week, introducing Cassie was a great next step for Evelin & Tyron. You was incredible on Wednesday night, Cannot wait to see more of you soon & see how the story develops. X
