Coronation Street star confirms double return after cobbles exit

Coronation Street star Claire Sweeney has revealed when her character, Cassandra "Cassie" Plummer, will be returning to the ITV soap. Viewers will recall that just days after making her debut on the cobbles, Cassie left Weatherfield with estranged mother, Evelyn Plummer, in order to get clean so she can meet her long-lost son, Tyrone Dobbs.
Soap watchers had been left wondering if and when the duo would be returning but need not worry as Claire, 52, has revealed their comeback date. Appearing on Wednesday's Lorraine, the actress said: "I'm back on August 16th on screen and I'm back in the thick of filming, working with the wonderful Alan Halsall [Tyrone].
He’s so good, and Maureen [Lipman, who plays Evelyn] , and Sally Carman [Abi Franklin] as well, I love it." It comes as Claire has admitted she is "very grateful" after making her debut on Coronation Street as Cassandra "Cassie" Plummer.The actress made her first appearance last month as Tyrone's long-lost mum and Evelyn's estranged daughter Cassie.Taking to Twitter, Claire wrote: "Had so many lovely comments about my first scene in @itvcorrie with the amazing Dame Maureen Lipman. Written by @Iankershaw and directed by Abe Dukes.Thanks for all your kind words, feel very grateful." Soap fans were quick to react to the tweet as one person said: "The best two-hander in serial drama for many a year - Maureen Lipman superb as ever with @clairesweeney knocking it right back at her.
