January wouldn’t be January without a new series of Dancing On Ice. With the series kicking off on our screens, a whole host of celebrities are looking to brace themselves for the ice as they attempt to wow the judges and take home the trophy. Joining celebrities including Love Island star Amber Davies and S Club’s Hannah Spearritt is boxer Ricky Hatton who was the first contestant to be announced as appearing on the show.
Speaking on This Morning at the time, he said: “If I can hold my nerve in the boxing ring I should be able to hold my nerve in the ice rink. I like setting new challenges and keeping myself busy!”. However, while Ricky, 45, may be keen on the idea of completing this new challenge, it appears that his friends and family were less keen on the prospect when they first heard the news.
“They all thought it was crackers because I can't dance on a solid floor, so I don't know how I'm going to do it on ice! But it was great,” he explained. “The reaction of my kids, Millie and Fearne, they watched the show and they went, ‘Oh my God, dad. Oh honestly, are you dad? Can't wait for this.
Don't go embarrassing us, dad.’ That fills you with confidence, doesn't it?” This comes after allegations emerged that Ricky had reportedly split from his Playboy model girlfriend Chelsea Claire after just four months of dating. According to reports published in The Sun, the sportsman is said to have decided to part ways from 31 year old Chelsea after their age gap, which is around 14 years, caused issues between the both. Meanwhile, with his stint on the ice having taken a lot of time in training to prepare for, Ricky allegedly wanted to focus as much as he could on the TV competition.
