Supermarkets are inundated with low-fat and weight loss products, but food labels can often be confusing when it comes to dieting.
Packaging and labels may on so-called healthy products may seem innocent, but the information can sometimes be misleading. Manufactures often use tactics to disguise everything from serving sizes to ingredients listed.
One common issue is certain products labelled as "natural" or "healthy" despite containing high levels of sugar, sodium, or unhealthy fats. Complex and unfamiliar scientific jargon in the ingredient list can also fool customers into thinking they are making a healthy choice for their diet.

The experts suggest being aware of the ways sugar and salt are described and using caution with fat-free products.
Ashleigh Tosh, nutrition expert,said: “When you look at the way products are packaged these days it can be overwhelming to decide which is the healthier option with so many claiming to be free from fats, salts, sugars.
“Manufacturers can be really clever with their wording and it doesn’t always show the full picture. For example, a lot of people may not be aware of the fact that when a product claims it’s fat-free, it’s because that fat is usually replaced with something like salt to help with the taste. That means that whilst it is technically free from fat, it may not be the healthier option.
