ITV Good Morning Britain star rushed to hospital for emergency surgery after infection

Good Morning Britain's Susanna Reid and co-host Richard Madeley sent a message to their colleague live on air after he was rushed to hospital at the weekend for emergency surgery.
Chief correspondent Richard Gaisford contracted an infection, as writes the Mirror, which led to him needing urgent treatment. The ITV worker shared an image of himself lying in a hospital bed as he opened up on his sudden health scare on Sunday.
He also praised the NHS staff as he thanked NHS staff for their care. On Monday's GMB show, Susanna and Richard touched on the news live on air as they sent their best wishes.
Susanna told him and viewers she was sending Richard "our very best wishes" and hoped he'd have a "swift recovery", as she also thanked the NHS staff who helped him. Her co-host Richard added: "Get well soon mate."
Richard posted the news on his Twitter page on Sunday alongside the snap from hospital as he wore a gown and said: "Not quite the Sunday I’d planned. Many thanks to the incredible team @PHU_NHS for amazing care and a spot of emergency surgery.
"NHS at its very best. I realise there are untold pressures at the moment, but the service I received was first class and hugely appreciated." He also added "NHS" with a heart emoji.
Other GMB co-stars and friends rushed to respond to the hospital news including Laura Tobin who wrote: "Take care x," while Marverine Cole said: "Flip! Hope you're AOK now??"
