Richard Madeley's voice breaks as he sends message to Deborah James on GMB alongside her podcast co-host

Richard Madeley appeared to be choked up as he spoke directly to Deborah James who was watching Good Morning Britain on Monday (May 16). The presenter and campaigner had tuned in to the show to watch her You, Me and the Big C podcast co-host Lauren Mahon.

Lauren was on the ITV news programme to chat to Richard and co-host Susanna Reid about Deborah, who in the last week has raised an incredible £6m for Cancer Research UK through her Bowelbabe fund on Just Giving but also been made a Dame for her incredible efforts, receiving the honour at home from Prince William on Friday (May 13).

Deborah, known online as Bowel Babe, was honoured for her “tireless campaigning” to raise awareness of bowel cancer. It comes after the 40-year-old disclosed last Monday (May 9) that she had moved to hospice-at-home care to treat the terminal disease after being diagnosed in 2016.

"But... what this week has done. has just given us some pure joy to cling on to and only Deb could do that, in the darkest of times shine such a big light." She added: "We are all so proud of what she's achieved this week and what she's achieved in the last five years."

Lauren went on to explain how Deborah is so happy that "a lot money will be going into special projects she wanted funding for" and that it is "more than she's ever dreamed." Before the end of the interview, the GMB hosts asked Lauren to share a message to her friend directly as she'd had communication

'He said Brexit would REMOVE VAT!' Susanna Reid launches Twitter attack on Gove after vow
Susanna Reid, 51, has fumed at Michael Gove on Twitter after his appearance on Good Morning Britain today.Secretary of State for Levelling Up Michael Gove was given a dressing down by the presenter on the ITV news programme. She tore into the minister over the cost-of-living crisis and demanded to know why he would not remove VAT on energy bills to help citizens. On Twitter, Susanna continued her anger against Gove as she typed: “In 2016 Michael Gove wrote a newspaper article saying VAT on fuel bills hit the poorest hardest & we should Brexit to remove VAT. “In 2022 he says removing VAT would help the wealthiest most and we shouldn’t do it.”The mother-of-two also shared a video clip from GMB showing her grilling of Gove, as she questioned why he campaigned for removing VAT on energy bills previously, but was now not supportive of the change. However, some of her followers also seemed frustrated that it appeared Gove was unable to fully answer Susanna’s questions without interruption.@BcfcDavid wrote: “During the whole 1 min 6 seconds of this video, there were only 13 seconds where you didn't speak or talk over him.Seriously, what's the point? Hold ministers to account but let us listen to what they have to say.”(sic)@zx_spectrum_30 remarked: “Whilst removing VAT for everyone would be lovely, the tax just gets raised somewhere else so I would like the rich to carry on paying it, but have some means of removing/rebating/supporting those that really need it.
