Gemma Winter-Brown (Dolly-Rose Campbell) has her parenting skills tested when Joseph Brown (William Flanagan) is poisoned in Coronation Street spoilers. When Joseph tells Gemma he’s under the weather and can’t go to school. But after his latest trip to A&E that amounted to nothing, she doesn’t believe him, and sends him packing.
However it seems Joseph isn’t lying when Chesney Winter-Brown (Sam Aston) is called to pick his poorly son up. And when Chesney returns home with the suggestion that Gemma ignored signs of Joseph being ill to which she takes huge offence and brands herself a terrible mother. Later on, when the Winter-Brown’s prepare for their early Christmas, Bernie Winter (Jane Hazlegrove) advises Gemma to give Joseph some lavender tea to perk him up.
However, Joseph passes out and when he’s taken to hospital, the doctors reveal he’s been poisoned. As Joseph returns home, the family all gather together for Christmas lunch but a child protection officer pays them a visit. She asks to interview Gemma, and when everyone leaves the house the protection officer suggests that Gemma poisoned Joseph on purpose.
Meanwhile, Ed Bailey (Trevor Michael Georges) is horrified when his dad, Sarge Bailey (Ram John Holder), arrives on the street earlier than expected. Ronnie Bailey (Vinta Morgan) suggests a big family meal out, and Ed secretly panics when his brother insists they’ll pick up the tab. Having taken out a payday loan, Ed scans the racing pages for a win.
