Coronation Street fans were left saying 'no way' as a new character arrived on the cobbles. For the first time, viewers of the ITV soap were introduced to Sarge Bailey, the father of Ed and Ronnie Bailey.
His arrival in Weatherfield comes as Ed spirals further back into his gambling addiction with his brother, whom he's in business with, and his family, including children Michael and Dee-Dee, none the wiser. During Monday night's trip to the cobbles (November 27), Ed was surprised when his father arrived early.
When Ronnie suggested a big family meal out, insisting they’ll pick up the tab, Ed tried to mask his panic. Having taken out a payday loan, Ed was seen scanning the racing pages. Then, as the Baileys gathered in the Bistro, Ed surreptitiously watched the racing on his phone, while Sarge made digs about his business brain.

And the digs from his father only continued at home later and it all became too much for Ed as his children defended him, not realising he was back in a place he once was and almost destroyed his family in the process.
But Corrie fans couldn't help but be distracted by Sarge as they recognised the actor playing him. Ram John Holder, who is best known for his portrayal of Porkpie in the much-loved Channel 4 sitcom Desmond’s, made his debut in the soap as Sarge. His casting was leaked in September, however, this was the first time he has been seen on screen.
And viewers rushed to social media to comment on the 80-year-old's arrival. @joewagg23 said: "Brilliant to see Porkpie in Coronation Street! Legend! #Corrie #coronationstreet."

However, during the episode which aired on Monday, 27 November, it was confirmed that she will not be returning to Weatherfield any time soon. Aggie was last seen on the soap in the summer, and her absence has been unexplained, and fans have been wondering if they will ever get to see her again.

Coronation Street viewers have begged ITV bosses to “kill off” one character after branding Wednesday 22 November’s episode a “horrific watch”. After Liam Connor became Mason Radcliffe’s latest bullying victim earlier on in the week, things between the two got more dramatic when Mason continued to target Liam during his time at school.
