Libraries across Greater Manchester will be participating in Black History Month by hosting events celebrating black female pioneers who made history.
With Black History Month starting in October, events featuring black female pioneers are expected to be hosted across the month.
The events will feature various activities for people to participate in including panel discussions, artistic workshops and the North West’s first black Indie Comic Festival.

With Black History Month being celebrated every October in the UK, the theme centres around ‘Saluting Our Sisters’, a celebration of Black Women who have made a mark in history and celebrating their success.
Fans of the hit Netflix show, Bridgerton, can get involved in a Bridgerton-themed panel discussion and a creative workshop on Monday, October 2. This will include guests such as the Artistic Director of the Contact Theatre, Kiesha Thompson and Deputy Lieutenant of Greater Manchester, councillor Erinma Bell MBE.
The panel discussions will be covering black experience in theatre, TV and film and colour blind casting. Guests are also invited to wear a costume centered around Bridgerton’s period.
Workshops featured in libraries will allow adults and children over the age of eight to participate in creative writing and drawing sessions through research and retelling stories of black women through comics.
