Regular 'deep cleans' are being carried out on trams and buses across Greater Manchester amid fears a bed bug invasion could be looming. It comes after the blood-sucking critters were apparently spotted on the London Underground.
Sightings in the capital have emerged on social media following an outbreak in Paris. One grim clip posted on TikTok shows a small brown insect crawling up a commuter's leg on the Victoria Tube Line.
Transport for London said it is 'not aware of any confirmed sightings of bedbugs' on the capital's transport network, but that it was continuing to closely monitor the network and 'takes all possible precautionary measures'.

Isolated claimed sightings on the Underground have sparked concerns that bed bugs could soon be seen in our region. This week Transport for Greater Manchester (TfGM) confirmed regular deep cleans of the upholstery using 'specialist tools' are being carried out on all trams and buses, but said it has not been made aware of any issues.
On Monday (October 9) an alarmed passenger travelling on a First Bus heading to Oldham posted a photo on X, formerly Twitter, of a brown insect making its way up one of the windows on the bus.
The user h wrote: “hey @FirstBusnews your 59 to Oldham Mumps has bedbugs I suggest you do something about this quickly lol.”
In response, First replied: "This is really concerning to see, and we do apologise for this," before asking for further information to report the incident to the depot management team. First has been approached for comment.
