The decision of where to retire is an all-important choice with many factors to consider. Whilst some would like to stay in their hometown, others may want to move to a different area to spend their later years.
A recent survey from Which? has now revealed the 12 best places to retire in the UK, with one Greater Manchester borough being named as the top area in the north west. The consumer champion surveyed more than 1,000 members to determine what is most important to them when they retire.
Topping the list was healthcare, with 88 percent choosing it as the most vital factor, following by green space, proximity to local leisure activities, low crime levels and affordable house prices. And after ranking each area out of 10 for its qualities, it was Stockport that was awarded the best place for retirees with the most to offer in the north west.

The Greater Manchester borough has this year been named as one of The Sunday Times' Best Places to Live in 2023, one of the best places for first-time buyers and Greater Manchester's Town of Culture 2023.
In the Which? survey, Stockport was awarded 7.8 out of 10 for its healthcare, 7.6 out of 10 for 'happiness' of residents, and 9.2 out of 10 for its parks and playing fields. Its average house price of £285,000 was also ranked highly as being a more affordable option for those wanting to purchase a property in their retirement.
