Everybody knows the feeling of being completely exhausted. Feeling tired sometimes is normal - but extreme tiredness could be a sign that something is wrong.
According to the NHS, there are five medical conditions that can cause tiredness and fatigue that people should be aware of. If you feel tired all of the time and you do not know what the cause is, it could be a good idea to talk to your GP.
There may be a simple explanation for your tiredness. If you're not getting enough sleep, suffering from insomnia or feeling stressed or depressed, you could find yourself more fatigued than usual.

Other things that may cause tiredness include having an unhealthy lifestyle or not getting enough exercise, hormonal changes, such as puberty, pregnancy or menopause, or taking certain medications that cause drowsiness.
But if you find yourself tired for a long period of time, and you can't explain why, it may be a sign of a medical condition, the NHS says. Other symptoms may give you an idea of what is wrong, but you should always speak to a doctor if concerned.
Here are five conditions that could be causing extreme tiredness, according to the NHS website.
Symptoms: Tired during the day because of waking up at night, making gasping, snorting or choking noises at night and loud snoring
According to the NHS, sleep apnoea is a condition that causes your breathing to stop and start while you sleep, which can lead to more serious problems if left untreated. The most common type is called obstructive sleep apnoea (OSA).
