The teen was travelling in Wendy Posner's car with his twin sister Cathy and their friend Angelica after they stole it in order to get to a New Year's Eve party that their families weren't willing to take them to.
After starting to make their own way there, it wasn't until later that April Windsor confessed to what she had seen to Cathy and Heath's dad Bob and his partner Wendy, and they quickly headed off in pursuit of the kids.

Viewers briefly saw the trio in the car, with Heath demanding his sister go quicker as they were already late for the party while also getting annoyed she had taken the 'back roads'. He also commented how he or Angelica could drive if she wasn't willing to speed up before they suffered a near miss.
The car then wasn't seen again until Bob and Wendy stumbled across the scene and were horrified to find the car crashed off of the side of a country road. While Cathy and Angelica watched on after escaping the wreckage, Wendy did her best to perform CPR on Heath until more help arrived but he tragically died in heartbreaking scenes.
