Bob and Wendy soon set off in pursuit of the twins and Angelica while viewers saw them heading down the back country roads at night. They had a near miss, seemingly with Aaron Dingle and Mackenzie Boyd as they were out stealing cars, as Heath pressured his sister to speed up as they were already late to the party.

The trio then weren't seen again until Bob and Wendy came across the crashed car. While Cathy and Angelica managed to escape the wreckage, Heath was still unconscious inside the vehicle. Wendy instructed her partner to help get him out but Bob seemed hesitant. But she insisted she needed to start CPR and her efforts appeared fruitless as Bob watched on in panic before an ambulance arrived.
Then, at the hospital, Bob broke the news to Brenda that Heath had died, leaving them both sobbing in each other's arms. During Tuesday night's (January 2) Emmerdale, Bob was refusing to leave the hospital until he saw his son, with him eventually allowed to be with him before the post-mortem.
