Coronation Street star Alex Bain has confirmed that he's returned to the soap's production site as he shared a sneaky snap behind-the-scenes.
The actor, who has played Simon Barlow on the soap for 15 years, is set to bow out of the cobbles in the next few months but now he's left fans wondering why he's back as he teased at being 'home'. Since he first stepped foot on the cobbles, Alex has been at the centre of some gripping storylines, including domestic abuse and a dramatic plot where he lashed out at his cousin, Amy Barlow. His character was previously revealed as the abuser with his on-screen mum Leanne Battersby being the victim.
But now, after a decade and a half, Alex is reportedly ready to say goodbye to the soap set in Weatherfield and it is reported that he will leave the soap in the summer of 2024. Now taking to his Instagram page just days ago, Alex shared a picture to his story of the soap's production site in Trafford, Greater Manchester. In the snap of the production site, the large metallic logo could be seen on the side of the building.
Alex wrote a cheeky caption alongside the snap as he added: "Guess who’s back home?" But fans are unsure whether this means Alex has now completed filming and is returning for a brief stint, or whether he’s just paying his co-stars a visit. It’s expected that his departure will play out over the Spring, as Simon and Leanne become entwined in a dangerous cult that is masking itself as a self-help group. Having been a part of Coronation Street for 13 years, Alex's character, Simon, has grappled with a series of harrowing storylines over the years.
