Manchester United's interest in Altay Bayindir preceded Erik ten Hag's arrival and two attempts were made to sign the goalkeeper before last summer, according to his agent.
United confirmed the arrival of Bayindir in a £4.3million deal from Fenerbahce on deadline day, drafting the Turkish international in to provide cover for first-choice Andre Onana. The 25-year-old had consistently been linked with a move to Old Trafford all summer.
Bayindir is yet to make a single appearance for United, with Ten Hag keen to play £47.2m signing Onana into form, but he evidently has big fans in Manchester. That's according to his agent, Sefa Seyrek, who admits the Reds had registered interest as far back as 2021.

“Manchester United contacted me before the European Championships (held in 2021) They expressed their interest," Seyrek told Sport Digitale (via Sporx). "I conveyed this interest directly to Altay.
“Altay said; ‘I am focused on the European Championships. Then, we can evaluate it’.” After that, Altay picked up an injury (and) there was no release clause.
"That’s why there were some negativities. That’s why there was no progress. There was no offer at that time.
“Manchester United came to me again (in January 2022). I relayed the offer to Altay again. He said: 'I want to go while helping my club make money'. He took such a risk at the expense of losing (his chance to go to) Manchester United. Then, we signed a four-year contract with a release clause.”
It is unclear when Bayindir will make his United debut, having been benched for the usual opening in the first round of the Carabao Cup
