“It’s terrible,” Kevin told the Manchester Evening News. “I was with Barclays bank and they promised they wouldn't leave Radcliffe – and now they've deserted Radcliffe. Not many people want to bank online.”
The first bank to close in the town, which is home to more than 30,000 people, was the Royal Bank of Scotland in 2018. The building later became a takeaway and is soon to be converted into flats.
The old Halifax building society, which is now a fried chicken shop, closed the following year despite a petition signed by hundreds of people. It was even backed by the local MP and council leader.
Radcliffe’s last remaining branch - a TSB on Market Place - closed in 2021.
