A female prison officer exchanged explicit messages with three serving prisoners and also sent money to one inmate when he was transferred to prison in Manchester.
Sarah Williams 'fell into the traps and into the arms of sophisticated criminals', said Matthew O’Neill, her defence solicitor. He told Liverpool Crown Court on Thursday (December 21) that Williams 'fell for the charms of these prisoners'.
Williams knew that the three men - all with connections to organised crime groups - had mobile phones in their cells. However, instead of reporting this to her bosses, she instead swapped thousands of texts and calls with them.

Liverpool Crown Court heard that these included “sexual messages and chat and images, intimate sexual chat.” However, these messages did not result in 'physical sexual contact between [her] and any of the three men', Judge Denis Watson KC, pointed out.
The mum-of-three also told one of them that another inmate was suspected by her colleagues of having illicit items in his cell. She also illegally searched the prison database for him to find out which jail another individual was being held.
The court heard that after finishing her training she had been placed in ‘Canal’ wing at HMP Altcourse in Liverpool, which houses prisoners serving medium to long term sentences and badly behaved inmates.
Jailing her for 18 months on Wednesday afternoon, Judge Watson said that “reading between the lines” in reports prepared about her “you are someone who seeks approval."
