A Scots dad who went to the doctors after suffering from a persistent arm spasm was left devastated after being diagnosed with Motor Neuron Disease.
Mark Ferguson, 43, first sought medical attention in September 2022 after experiencing the symptom for over two months. The condition was initially attributed to tiredness, unfitness, or age - however, Mark started to experience a sudden limp one night while out with friends.
After undergoing a series of tests, the dad-of-four, from Aberdeen, was referred to a neurologist before being given the devastating MND diagnosis.
Mark told Aberdeen Live: "My wife Lucy came with me to the initial appointment with the neurologist, which was about two weeks after my visit to the doctor. I had to have various tests done and both the neurologist and my GP said they were 90% certain that it was MND.
"An MRI scan was later performed which confirmed without any doubt that I had MND."
Mark requested to postpone discussing the results until after the new year to cherish the Christmas season with Lucy, 35, and his children Chloe, 24, Mylo, 11, Luther, 5, and August, 2.
On January 5, 2023, he was officially diagnosed with MND. Since then his mobility has worsened, requiring him to rely on a walking stick and he has experienced a significant loss of power and dexterity in his hands.
However, despite the challenges he faces, Mark has continued to work as a Senior Data Analyst for Wood in Aberdeen and has been using MND Scotland's support services.
Describing the support he has received from family and friends, Mark said: "My wife Lucy has been my rock and my two eldest children Chloe and Mylo have also been amazing. Chloe even moved her wedding from 2025 to May 27 this year, with just seven weeks
