Former centre-back Rio Ferdinand has waxed lyrical about Manchester United winger Jadon Sancho, insisting he has been the club's "best player" in recent matches.
Following a slow start to life at United, the summer signing from Borussia Dortmund has shown lots of promise in recent weeks — highlighted by his first assists for the club in Sunday's 4-2 win over Leeds at Elland Road.
Setting up both Bruno Fernandes and Fred either side of the half-time interval, the 21-year-old has now been directly involved in four goals in his last five games in all competitions, scoring twice and grabbing two assists.
Making the left-flank his own, Sancho is beginning to show why United were tracking his signature for so long, and Ferdinand believes he has made significant progress in recent weeks.
Ferdinand told Vibe with Five: "I think Sancho is now stepping up, producing the form that everybody expected from day one. But reality kicked in and said, 'listen, sometimes people need to adapt', and he is doing that.
"In the last few games he has been the best player in a red shirt, 100 per cent, and long may that continue.
"Keep going, Sancho, we love to see that."
Having struggled for regular opportunities to impress in the first half of the season, Sancho has been given regular game-time by Ralf Rangnick in recent weeks.
And Ferdinand said that's exactly what the winger needed, adding: "For somebody like Sancho, who has been searching for a bit of form and consistency, the fact that [Mason] Greenwood is no longer available and [Anthony] Martial is no longer available, there is not that big threat that he is not going to play next week or he [Rangnick] has got a chance to play somebody else.
