Newcastle defender Kieran Trippier admits Jadon Sancho was always going to need time to settle in after signing for Manchester United last summer.
A move four years in the making, Sancho finally touched down at Old Trafford from Borussia Dortmund last summer after they paid £72.9million for his services.
Having progressed through academy systems at Watford and neighbours Manchester City, it was in Germany that Sancho cut his teeth as a professional, scoring 50 goals and 64 assists to make himself a regular England international.
Yet Sancho initially struggled to replicate that form at United.
Indeed, it took him 10 appearances to register his first goal in the Premier League and his two assists during their dramatic win at bitter rivals Leeds United last Sunday afternoon were his first in that competition.
Generally, though, his performances have been improving for quite some time and Trippier — who like Sancho was also the subject of United transfer interest in the summer of 2021 — has backed the 'top quality' winger to continue to underline his worth.
Speaking to BBC 5 Live Sport about Sancho, former Atletico Madrid defender and La Liga winner Trippier said: "It's difficult.
"Before he went to Dortmund I don't know if he even played in the Premier League, did he? Coming here from the Bundesliga and going to Man United... it's a different league. It's totally different.

"It's going to take him a little bit of time to settle back in. I think he is coping with that and, if people have said he's not played well, he's dealt with that very well.
"Over the past few games, he has shown why he's a top player and he was fantastic [against Leeds]."
