RB Leipzig have warned Man City that they only have a few weeks left if they are to sign Josko Gvardiol.
City have made the Croatian defender their top target for the remainder of the summer transfer window but have yet to reach an agreement with the Bundesliga side over his signature.
The Manchester Evening News understands Leipzig want an answer by the time they begin their season with the Super Cup against Bayern Munich next month, meaning City don't have long left to get a transfer completed.
The summer transfer window remains open until September 1, but if the Super Cup is indeed used as a deadline for the deal, City would only have until August 12 to make suitable progress on a move.

Leipzig are open to selling Gvardiol this summer, but are wary that any transfer must be completed with enough time left in the window for them to go and sign a replacement.
It is understood Marco Rose's side are strongly interested in Feyenoord defender Lutsharel Geeryruida as a possible replacement, but they will only be able to meet his €40m asking price if they cash in on Gvardiol first. Lyon defender Castello Lukeba is also of interest to the Bundesliga side.
There is still confidence that an agreement can be reached, and there is an appreciation that Leipzig still need to raise funds to balance their books despite selling fellow star Dominik Szoboszlai to Liverpool earlier this summer.
Gvardiol, 21, is currently away with the Leipzig squad in Italy as part of their pre-season preparations and is understood to be relaxed amid the uncertainty over his future.
