Pep Guardiola believes staying calm will be key in the Premier League as Manchester City try and hunt down the sides above them in the second half of the season.
City are fourth heading into the final game of 2023 and for the second year in a row are playing catch-up in the table, with Aston Villa, Arsenal and Liverpool in their sights. After a run of one win in six league games, Guardiola's side returned to form by beating Everton 3-1 at Goodison Park on Wednesday and they have a game in hand on the teams above them.
But the presence of four teams in a title race at the halfway stage is unusual and it's leading to a high-wire battle at the moment, with Guardiola aware of the swings that can happen across a single weekend.

"If we lose a game we are out, when we win we are there, same for the other contenders, be calm, everything can happen, results you cannot expect, so the last game of the year, January is more relaxed and more time to recover," he said.
City will expect to end the year on a high by beating Sheffield United, who sit bottom of the Premier League, but Guardiola is wary of a side that has given him problems in the past, especially under Chris Wilder.
"Always in the past we’ve had problems with Sheffield United, they made incredible performance vs Aston Villa," he said. "It will be very tough – a bit like Crystal Palace, they defend deep. In the last games at home we couldn’t get results so try to be focused.
"Similar to Everton, long balls, set pieces, transitions, don’t make mistakes, play with a lot of intensity, attack in the right ways. Experience with Chris is it's always difficult."
