National Televison Award viewers 'shook' by Sarah Lancashire's 'real voice' as they ask 'what happened'

National Television Award viewers said they were 'shook' as they heard Saah Lancashire's 'real voice' as she was honoured on the star-studded night. The actress was at the bash as Happy Valley was nominated for three awards after leaving fans gripped earlier this year with the final-ever series.
But unbeknownst to the Oldham-born star, she was also being celebrated on the night with the 'Special Recognition' award. The award recognises individuals or programmes that have made an impact in television or broadcasting for their exceptional contributions to the industry.
It came after the BBC programme, in which she stars as Sergeant Catherine Cawood, took home the title for Best Recurring Drama, beating the likes of Call the Midwife, Vera and Stranger Things. After Sir Ian McKellen announced Sarah, 58, as the winner, the former soap star gave an emotional acceptance speech.

"You have no idea what it’s like to have so many lovely things said about you by so many people that you love and admire," she said after receiving messages from people she has worked with over the years as clips from her career, including her appearance in Coronation Street, were played out to a packed O2 Arena in London and to viewers watching at home.
She added: "I have been so very fortunate to spend my working life doing a job that I love, made possible by brilliantly talented people, producers, directors, writers, actors and I am exceptionally lucky to have enjoyed every moment of it.
