The members of the pop group Nsync reunited at the MTV VMAs 2023 to hand out the first award of the night. Nicki Minaj presented the group and made sure everyone soaked in the moment right at the start of the award show.
Taylor Swift’s reaction to seeing the Nsync reunion was probably everyone’s reaction to watching at home. As Joey Fatone, Lance Bass, Justin Timberlake, JC Chasez and Chris Kirkpatrick made their way to present the Best Pop award, the crowd went wild.
“Over 20 years ago we were just kids when we won Best Pop Video for ‘Bye, bye, bye,'” JC said. “It was our first VMA and it meant the world to us.”
Kirkpatrick continued, “That award validated our hard work and we might’ve won again for Pop…”
“A lot has changed over the past two decades but one thing remains constant, a creative, boundary-pushing video leaves a lasting mark for decades,” Bass added.
Fatone went on to thank MTV and all the fans who have supported music artists over the years. Timberlake would throw to the nominated artists in the Best Pop category and would read Swift’s name as the first winner of the night.
A shocked Swift took the stage to accept her award and Bass even handed her a friendship bracelet as he congratulated her on her win.
“I’m not doing well pivoting from [Nsync reunion] to [winning Best Pop],” she said as she took over the microphone.
She continued, “I had your dolls… Are you doing something? What’s going to happen now? They’re going to do something and I need to know what it is. You’re pop personified and to receive this from your golden pop hands it’s too much.”
Ahead of Nsync presenting on stage, Timberlake shared a video on Instagram as they prepared.

that’s how to make mo money.Lil Wayne has been around longer enough to now have elder-statesman status at 40. And in honor of the 50th anniversary of hip-hop, it’s fitting that a rapper would open this year’s VMAs.But “Uproar” — a relatively minor hit from 2018’s “Tha Carter V” — and the new single “Kat Food” didn’t exactly take us back to the classic Weezy vibeology of “A Milli” (which he did return to perform in the hip-hop finale) and “Lollipop.”Thankfully, Olivia Rodrigo — who, 20 years younger than Wayne, would have made more sense as the opener in 2023 — swooped in to help save the opener in the end with “Vampire” and “Get Back.”Two years ago, Doja Cat hosted and performed at the VMAs back when she seemed a little green to be pulling double duty.
